Quote: Here's how the coin looks now If that's accurate if you really don't like it just sell it you'll be pleased with the result and someone who enjoys toned coins will get to enjoy it. What style NGC holder is it in, some of the old ones did create toning over the years

Wow talk about change over time. I think it's a beaut now compared to before. NO clue why it happened like this, but nice.

Quote:Would NGC buy back my 1837 Half Dime since it no longer deserves the grade on the holder? Billjones said:Only NGC can answer that. He is correct, but also toning should not affect the grade itself, only the eye appeal. Grade is about wear, or lack of, as well as marks, ticks, scuffs from other coins coming into contact with said coin say in a bag or a pile of them. Details is about damage, scratches, intentional or unintentional. It can also be about cleaning, and recoloring using chemical agents to speed reaction times, or acid based ones to strip away a layer of toning or other environmental surface contamination. I don't believe the grade changes other than the possibility of it becoming a details graded coin from a (missed) old dipping/cleaning.

Have any other coins in your collection changed drastically, or is it just the Half Dime?

The Half Dime is the only coin I have that changed.
