Make sure you are bilingual.. The good news is that with shipping delays, you a can add a bunch of 2012 coins to this years purchases (even some hundred year old coins yet to be shipped). My projected spending as of now is crazy for this year. Cocaine would be a cheaper addiction.

Wow, thanks for sharing.
I had been making a list of the coins I have, because people will see a coin and want to buy it for me but worry I might already have it. And on that list, I made the mistake of putting the price I paid for each coin, then out of curiosity I totaled the numbers up. Well safe to say I'm not curious anymore. I'm going to go buy a bobcat so I can properly bury my head in the sand.

Quote: But who said that a collector HAS to buy ALL released coins?
I wasn't suggesting someone try - I know I certainly don't! I just thought it would be interesting to look at the numbers. Who knows, maybe there is a well-heeled collector (or two) who actually does purchase one of everything for their collection. There was a time (a couple of decades ago) when many collectors did look to purchase one of every collector coin a Mint sold. Of course, the number of releases was much smaller, precious metal prices were much lower and kilogram coins were nonexistent at the time.

Interesting stuff! So does this mean we get a June, July & August release? Who needs a summer vacation anyway?

I'm not a big spender by any means, but am already spending beyond what I've allocated for the year. It's only April.

Quote:Just my opinion, but I'm beginning to think the RCM is out of control... But ........ as opposed to the U.S. Mint ? " This is what we have. take it or leave it " Except for the occasional anniversary set . They have the yearly commemoratives ( that the govt. is trying to do away with, or at least the donated surcharges), but everything else is basically hyped up versions of circulating coins aren't they ?

I have a colossal spreadsheet that I use to track all my coins, provide descriptions, tag with inventory #'s, etc. I have spent way too much this year already and will be very selective from here on in. Back in 2001, I spent a lot on silver and gold bullion which has helped to keep the overall value of my collections above my cost.

@commems: Thanks for putting into concrete numbers my feeling that the RCM is releasing far too many coins. The effect is actually to discourage collectors and undermine the efficiency of their own operation. Is this going to be a case of the mint killing the geese who buy their silver and golden eggs?

Thanks for reminding me. I started to collect RCM silver coins a couple months ago, every new-released silver coin bought in a pair or 3, except for the coneflower glass butterfly :) 1 only. I think I have to cut down my buying to 5-6 coins in a year. :(

Why people buy 3 or more coins of the same one? I'm a collector, and the only reason I should buy more is to speculate and think I'll sell it to a higher price... So if lots of people buy 3 or more coins of the same one, it's easy to see that 10 000 mintage is selling pretty fast...

RCM 2012 Annual Report has been released (as forumguy posted today). $145.1 million revenue from numismatics and collectibles from 136 numismatic coins in 2012. From this post, 81 coins so far in 2013, already 60% of last year in only 4 months.

I have spent $300 or so, on 3 wolves, 3 dinos, and the hundred years war. I plan on getting the two 1812 coins later. I am not a big mint product fan, so I can ignore most releases.

Quote: 81 coins so far in 2013, already 60% of last year in only 4 months. That does seem excessive....but if bothering else it sure gives our forum a lot of discussion.... I joined before we had a forum just for NC LT....back then no one hardly mentioned them...now look at what a great forum we have created.. ....so active with topics..very entertaining....and with the all these new releases this yr. We will have a lot more to discuss... My only recommendation is that it would be nice to open it up To Canadian and World NC LT....I collect a # of those too..and would like to see discussion... Cheers
