I really like nickel dollars, they were the first date-set I ever completed. I'd try spending them at stores to spread the love.

I think nickel dollars are under appreciated although I doubt they will be worth more than $1.50 or so to a collector...

I have had lots of nickel fifty cents and dollar coins that I have picked up from my bank. I've always traded them off or gave some away to young collectors, they don't really excite me.

Quote: or should I just return to the bank If you determine that the effort of selling them would not result in a very large profit, I would just spend them. I would NEVER deposit them at a bank.

Yeah seems a shame to take them to a bank I'd pick some up if I was around lol.

Looks like I am saving about a dozen of them. Still have about $25 of US half dollars to look at. No silver though. I am not going to go through the hassel of listing , paying fees and shipping just to break even

If you tip a server with one of these, they'll remember you! FWIW.

A complete set of cased nickel dollars makes a nice shelf display.

Well if anyone in Ottawa is ever thinking of taking them to the bank for face I would be interested let me say that much as these are amazing coins to show people to get interested in the hobby at a reasonable price. I completed a date set of these along with small cent pennies when I got started.

You always have the option of creating a few sets with them...like one for each year 1968 to whenever and put that up on ebay. I think it will sell. Not like hot cakes but it should sell. Would be a nice starter for new collectors.

I have $400 worth (400) Canadian nickel $1 coins of almost every year between 1968 to 1986, and commemoratives, etc. I do not collect nickel dollars. If any collector here that lives in Vancouver and wants them for like $420 please contact me. We can meet in downtown Vancouver and you can take them from my hands.

I think Whitman makes "Canada Dollars No. 3" folders for these. I'd try buying a few, filling them up, and putting them on ebay (or selling them locally). That way, they're even already in a collection (and they'll probably sell better than a pile/stack).

I know a seller who just took 900+ nickels dollars to the bank, and 1800+ nickel halves to the bank as well. I can hardly wait to hear how it went. I almost wanted to give him FV for them myself!

I love 50 cent nickel pieces. I'd even pay a 10% premium over face!

I give mine as gifts to youngsters. A lot of gifts they get, they know they don't like righ of the bat and are dissappointed. With a Nickel coin, they don't know what to think about, but are quite entriqued and makes for an exciting eventure. Then down the road if they come back and discuss the whole Coin Value thing, I give them a Silver Dollar and then you've made a friend for life.
cheers,
