i guess toning held it back a bit and I think the strike on the obverse is a bit weak but I still say AU58 although if you post MS I wont be surprised

I can see how this must have some great toning even though it's hard to capture that. Reverse looks fantastic. Great looking coin, I'll go with at least AU-58..

I'm a bit higher grade minded on this one than the rest so far, I'm in at MS63 I can't see any wear from these photos, the luster looks really nice. But as always one needs a coin in hand for examination. The toning could be hiding rub or other distractions not seen in a static photo.

Maybe I'm in the minority but I see a bit of wear on Miss Liberty's left (as we look at it) and a scratch/rub in front of Liberty's face on the obverse. The reverse looks great but also with some wear noted on the eagle's upper wings.
I'm in at AU-53.

I'll break from the pack and say 53. In hand and actual size it probably looks 55+.

I will say AU 58 as well, obverse has minor rubbing the reverse is definitely nice though, but think obverse keeps it out of MS

Thanks for all the grades and comments. PCGS said AU58. The technical grade based strictly on surface preservation is closer to AU53 IMO. The 58 grade is a bit of a gift for good color and luster. I believe AU55 would have been the best compromise. Not complaining though, it did sell for 53 money and I was happy to buy it for that price. This particular coin is a good lesson in buying coins with only a static photo to go buy, and no return policy offered, walk away. This one I'd bet I'd get in hand but I was sure the spots everyone was seeing as rub (actually were rub) I thought were just toning breaks. Great study piece BH1964 - especially considering there is a $500.00 difference between my wrong guess and the actual guess. Though if I was buying it I could see PCGS's grade assigned, I still think it's nicer than AU53 at least an AU58 as you also think, but from 53 to 58 it's only a $50 difference.
