John seems to have some serious issues with SPP, or vice versa, or maybe the animosity is mutual, either way it made for interesting reading!

I am not going to say anything, for fear it might be cut and pasted into printed form, with limited supported contextual material. I could easily write a point-by-point rebuttal, but I won't. Not here, and not in printed form. Ever.

Frankly, if I was to have a beef with anyone, it would be the editor of that newsletter. Anyone whom has ever published columns, articles and papers, or has served in an editorial role themselves, would know that the content of that article does not fit the column theme of that newsletter. The editor is responsible for content, just like the moderators do here. If that article was posted on the internet, we would call that trolling...

I have probably said too much already....

A reply to a web-post belongs to a forum, where anyone and everyone can read and reply, not COWARDLY on a printed media, behind the shield of a friendly editor who will select what will or will not be published.

Shame on Canadian Coin News, shame on Bret Evans. Shame on the columnist.

Wow, I just read it! That has to be the funniest thing I have read in that publication!

SPP, you should be proud to have seemingly deserved a full page in one of Canada's primary coin publications, without an actual reference to your identity!

Okay, now I am going to rotfl again now...

Now upon scanning the original thread, I see what you mean about being quoted out of context SPP

It can be looked at two ways...
1. Cowardly on Printed media by John who may not know who SPP is because of the his forum name!
2. Cowardly as to take a few pokes at someone by means of this forum rather than to Columnist face!
You guys decide which is right or wrong. Either way, its childish!

I was kind of shocked when I read it in the CCN.
It must have been a really slow news day to put that in the paper.
John should spend more time answering his e-mails instead of writing crap like that.
Someone should respond with a letter to the editor complaining that the content is not up to par.
Bad form

Darryl, he can reply here if he wants. He can even create his own blog and write whatever he wants. This is the beauty (and evilness) of Internet. Now, try to write anything on a printed media without the approval of the editor.

As Noah wrote, he found it. He collated his column leaving stuff out. Why he did not answered the post directly? Why he "forgot" to mention Mr. Marshall article in the CCN discussing that same sandwich coin?

In science, my business, selecting evidence, among other serious issues, is ground for retraction of the article.

I agree with you 100%, I am actually a little shocked that the column would actually be published. It serves no purpose to the hobby.

Read the fine print about letters to the editor (Page 6, right hand side).

"CCN Reserves the right to edit letters"

Your complaint might become praise.

I agree totally ty.
How long did it take him to find that old thread? 3-6-9 months after the fact?
I am not taking any side on this matter I am just stating that one evil is no better then the other.
Two wrongs dont make a right.
I think this all started because SPP made a few comments about him then next thing you know there is some reading material in the CCN. Tit for tat so to speak!

I value both John and SPP's insights on coins and our great hobby. I also have respect for both however I find it disappointing and childish that two men would bicker back and fourth
in front of those that they try to help.
I also find it disturbing that people are trying to take sides.
Like I said earlier, like it or not its just really childish and I think if they have a problem with each other then deal with it personally rather then display it on our forum or in a newspaper.

For the record, there is no bickering. I do not, nor do I want to in the future, communicate with the author of that article. There will be no reply from me, formal or informal. My short reply was directed to the collectors who participate in this forum.

darryldarryl, the point of my post was to point out a flaw in the editorial process of that newsletter. I am quite certain it is something that will neither be addressed nor resolved. The article itself really does not bother me. It will not change how my error-collecting peers value my opinion. I still subscribe to CCN, but only because of the Trends prices and Sean Isaac's Trends commentary. I much prefer the articles in the CN Journal and Errorscope.

This is a coin forum.... let's talk about coins...
