Ya, it is beautiful. I would like to have it in my (admittedly low end) registry set just because it looks so good.

Anyone want to venture a grade? I am thinking high AU, which makes it virtually worthless, so hard to justify the cost of grading.

If it grades . . . . .

Medium Motto Variety. What leads you to believe it's been circulated? Luster? High points? There's a MS68 on the PCGS website with a reverse that has very similar toning.

The toning makes it hard (for these eyes) to judge the luster or any breaks in the luster. Maybe a better eye could see it.
This coin is crazy. Technical grade looks better in the photos. That is completely opposite with every other coin the I have experience with. Usually the camera picks up every flaw and magnifies it three times over. Not the case with this one, the toning obscures much of the flaws that are present in hand.
On the other hand, the colors do not photograph well, they look much better in hand, as you can tilt the coin and rotate it Into the light.
Jesse, to answer your question, I believe I am seeing wear on the high points. Particularly the legs, though (!) In the photos I can see every feather.
Regardless, there are enough battle wounds to hold it to 63 or so in any case. Right?
Or would it "market grade" a bit higher.
So, should this coin be submitted?

I'm not a Washington expert but I'm thinking this is just a soft strike we are looking at. I wouldn't be surprised if this was mid MS example maybe 63 or even 64. looks like quite a bit of luster under that toning. i'll bet this looks cool in hand.

If the luster is good with no breaks, the coin would probably go 64. I can see some tics on the obverse on Washingtons forehead and cheek which I think would keep it from going higher.

Another odd thing I noticed this morning. That big ugly spot behind George's head is hardly visible under 10X in hand.

Sweet natural coin that would go 63-64 IMO.
In a slab, it would become more valuable due to the nice toning and reassurance
of NT. People love toned coins, even AT.

Hi,

Until someone explains what these reverse-located striations are on the eagle's right wing, I will delay my opinion on the grade.

The left photo is the coin in this CCF thread while the right photo is a PCGS-graded MS-65 1934 quarter:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAP...torid=229466

Both photos are obviously reverse shots of a 1934 Washington quarter.

Take note of how the same areas differ somewhat from each other when looking to the NW side or to the SE side of the two headed arrow in both photos.

Are these areas in question PMD or something else? They appear to be totally absent on the PCGS coin.

Thanks

Received the coin yesterday. Jon I like the 34 very much. I think it is a beautiful coin. I really like the colors. On the obverse it has a hint of purplish blue around the In God We Trust , behind the head I see some gold and a dark tarnished silver look that I believe will have some gold in or around it. The reverse should be a beautiful gold. Jon this is such a nice coin. Thank You

The coin is original. It was probably in album for several years which is how it got that beautiful tone. I grade it MS-63. I can't see any luster breaks to knock to AU. I could be wrong not ctually looking at the coin but if and IF the luster shines through that toning with enough pop you would have a 64 but the teardrop mark under Washington's eye --- that will keep it from going any higher.

@atchisonbj well thank you I'm in the process of getting it graded with PCGS. It really looks beautiful in hand. I will post it when I get it back.

I'm going to guess that it grades a 64. Let us know when you find out.

ndpmedia, the marks that you reference are also present on a 34-d that is discussed here: https://goccf.com/t/153473
Check out the pics at this link: http://s759.photobucket.com/user/jo...l?sort=3&o=0
Also shot with my camera, maybe my lighting picks them up well.
