This is the single year (as far I know), that RCM issued Proof SML. If I understand correctly - it commemorates 10 yrs of the first Gold ML. Was issued as single coin, in the nice wooden case and non-serialized COA, also as part of different tri metal sets (Gold, Silver, Platinum). As I remember, the price of single varies between $70-100. Let's say, IMO - it "mast have" for SML collector. The Proof finish on it beautiful.

I agree, I picked one up and it's great. The box is made of maple, and the finish is great. Quote: what does a 1989 proof offer that's of such value? This coin was meant to be a NCLT, but based on the bullion SML. Limited mintage (total mintage was 30,000 but not sure of the actual mintage) as opposed to higher mintage for bullion, the case and certificate. I got mine from J&M Coins in Vancouver - $89 https://www.jandm.com/script/getite...CID=5&PID=32

Actually, this is the one and only year they minted a proof version... and what very few people know is they will never again be struck in proof finish. I love these 1989 proof ML coins and I have 1 full tri-metal set (1oz of silver, gold and platinum), two fractional sets (1oz silver, 1/10oz gold and 1/10oz platinum) and 2 SML. They all come with unique maple wood case and are FABULOUS!! ;)

@Silverbug Nice collection ;) I have one regret for my full tri-metal set... I bought one with the coins graded, so I cannot put the coins into the case! :( At first, I thought it wouldn't be that bad, but now I regret it very much! I would gladly exchange any ungraded ML formy graded ones (they were 67-68-68 if I remember correctly). When the Mint sold the proof 1989 ML, they stated it would be the only proof version EVER! In their own words: "After this year, the Maple Leaf will never again be struck in proof." I bought my last fractional set a little more than what it was really worth because it came with all the original paperwork, just take a look at my post on RFD at that time (with pics): http://forums.redflagdeals.com/rfd-...post16483540So now the question is: "Will RCM honor this promise forever?"

Quote: With the Proof finish or the standard one? I thought that it was a proof until I saw that ebay link a couple of posts earlier (jakedacc)...I have the standard version; mirror-like figure with satin fields.

thanks for the info TIPIT! wow, I didn't know RCM has this commitment. so far they kept their promise, and one thing I'm sure is that they won't make coin box like those 1989's EVER.

I have a spare 1989 Silver Proof Maple Leaf. I wouldn't know what to ask for something like that with the box.

Quote: You can buy them at J/M for $89 but I persume without the box or case? I bought from J&M a few weeks ago, comes with everything, box, certificate, and even the small instructions of how to take out the coin from the case.
