BB,

The silver .308 bullet- I mentioned it in another thread- should be arriving this week. It cost me $67, or $33.50 per oz. As a novelty item, I didn't mind the premium too much. I'm not sure how many were made so it's hard to say if this is the sort of thing that will appreciate over time.

--------------------------------------

If you're interested, I just did an ebay search and the cheapest I found the .308 was a BIN for $69.69 shipped.

Basebal21... when I mentioned SilverTowne it's because if you go there in person it's possible to buy silver at or close to melt. I've been there when they had 5 gallon buckets full of rounds and bars to pick over. It's like all the silver companies, if you can or could go in person it's a lot less costly than via mail order. :^)

Travin do you remember what shipping was for it? Its actually one of the few things that I'm not too concerned about long term value, I just remember last time shipping being like 15 dollars or something that seemed really high.

Ben that makes more sense. Silvertowne has some really good graded coin prices but I've always found their website prices to be really high for bullion and more specifically ASEs.

That's with S&H figured in, BB. As of this posting, there are still five left. Here's the link:

Likely a lot of kicking back and forth again maybe some more gains for a couple days with the feds being very wishy washy yesterday about their future plans.

Trae thanks for the link. Ill keep an eye on that. Last time I'd checked the north west mint had something like a 20 day backlog for those ordering directly from them.

It's below 20 $ for the weekend... Let's see what happens next week. It's a good buy below 20 $, but premiums and taxes are high :(

Looks like the rally may have been short-lived. I'm hoping the barometer takes an even deeper plunge this go-round :)

I had read something about the "August contracts" (Comex?) renewing & that August was a down or "losing" month. The 2nd or 3rd week was mentioned in having some volatility. who knows.

Basebal21 wrote in part " I've really grown to like the Barber coins a lot as well whose markups arent to brutal considering they were made over 100 years ago." That is a great idea and it does work. The catch is on the common date Barber coins those in AG-3 need to be bought as 90%. Let someone else pay that premium (like at your local auction where you are the seller) not you. On the common dates the minimum that's worth the premium over 90% is G-4 with FULL RIMS and NO RIM BUMPS.

The way it looks now - it might even fall below 19 $. I guess industrial production is lower in the big economies, so silver is falling...

"On the common dates the minimum that's worth the premium over 90% is G-4 with FULL RIMS and NO RIM BUMPS."

VG is much better for all three denominations. A detailed breakdown:

Dimes - Fine is the minimum. You'll pay a bit of a premium.
Quarters - Fine if it is reasonable [ a premium but best numismatic play ] but very good is doable.
Halves - Here I agree. Halves are prone to rim bumps. Full rim good is doable.

I base this on the fact that years ago the CDN listed GOOD and VG in the same column. Now the two each have a separate column.
Do to historical demands these coins were worn to death and relatively few remain in the mid grades.
But if keeping as close to 90% is important my opinion works.
