The $500 Penny Challenge

I had the same problem mizugori... trying to sell them is tough. After fees and shipping ebay makes it almost useless. I found a guy online to sell them to privately and that seems to work well.

I make $50 bags and ship 2 of them in a medium flat rate box for around $15 with $200 of insurance. That's where I would start.. sell one like that on ebay and contact the buyer about setting up a regular thing.

Good amount of wheats though.

There is a forum called realcent where you can easily sell copper pennies.

I cant state percentages since I havent been keeping track (although I wish I did and will going forward), but just wanted to share this... I have a residence in NY and one in FL and I noticed some consistant differences. I CRH in both quite frequently and in FL I am constantly getting peoples dumps, which I dont mind as one mans trash is another mans missing coin.

In FL, which I am in a popular retirement area, I get solid rolls of wheats and tons of copper. I get lots of older BU coins which I imagine the dumper simply had better. If the banks I frequent are out of customer wrapped rolls, its mainly boxes of brand new 2013's.

In NY, customer wrapped rolls are scarce (at least at my banks), so I think I am getting retail store dumps... these coins are beat! I have never seen 2010 and up coins that look like ancients as much as these. However, for some odd reason, randomly mixed in will be a handful of AU/BU coins from the 60s, 70s, 80s etc. I am talking few and far between, but I get older coins in better shape than the 2013s in the roll :) Also, feels like wheats dont exist in NY compared to FL as far as CRH. So few and far between.

Just thought Id share since I am in the unique situation to CRH in two very different locations.

On a side note, I am going through boxes of nickels now which I never touch in FL as my experiences were always horrible... lots of mangled coins. NY has better nickels, FL better cents IMO :)

Good finds, I haven't found a IHC in a while! I have 2 boxes of halves coming in this week, plan to pick up $200 in cents to go along with them so the Ryedale can do it's thing while I sort the halves.

Keep in mind that $20 profit actually is less since ebay and paypal (same company really) are reaming you with fees. that $20 turns to under $10. eBay/paypal fees are applied to the price PLUS shipping, meaning about 12% off $86, then subtract the $50 and $16, leaves you with 9. I have 50 sales on ebay and I really think I'm on my way out of selling coins on there.

Broseph is correct on fees. On that $50 box, I netted about $12 in profit. If you can find someone willing to forgo ebay, that is awesome. It has correctly earned the name ebay.

On a side note, after running about 600$ through this year. I noticed my Ryedale sensitivity was not set right. Basically anything prior to 1940 was being filtered out with the Zincs! Ouch!
