Nowhere near that amount of time. I only look at certain parts of the coin depending on what year it is. Such as the date, liberty, ear, EPU just dependent upon the year. 2011-Date, 2006 -Date and ear, 2004 EPU, 2000, 1999 and 1998 -America, 1997 - Ear, 1995 - Liberty, 1994 - Pillars, 1992 - America, 1988 - FG, 1984 - Ear, 1983 - One Cent and so forth. I can usually spot the semi major just under the magnifying glass such as the 2013 P 1DO-002. I have 5 the last 24 hours.

Quote: Just out of curiosity, how much time per coin do you spend?
About 30 seconds is what is required of me, and I can't seem to speed it up. Under normal condition I do three per minute. I check front and back on each coin.

WOW! Frankly, I need a better brain. I can't remember what "error" goes with what year, so I have to sort them by year first and then, with a cheat sheet of "things" to look for, I search. Anybody have quick way to remember all this or does it finally stick when you do it enough? Also, are you doing this for the thrill of the chase or are these errors worth serious money? Hawkeye

I don't think that I would be looking at coins if I were in it for money. You would be better off getting a part time job where the payoff is guaranteed through a paycheck. Even if you were into collecting coins the part time job may be the best route and just buy the coins you are looking for. I think that it is either the thrill of the hunt or probably just a lot of OCD that comes into play.

Anybody have quick way to remember all this or does it finally stick when you do it enough? 1: mostly we are talking "varieties" not "errors". 2: don't try to "remember" any date, get a good working knowledge of what varieties look like. 3:There are too many to attempt to remember them all. If you stick around here long enough and study sites like http://doubleddie.com/1801.html and http://www.coppercoins.com/the "biggies" will eventually stick in your head but don't ignore the "minor" ones. I usually just check for the minor ones that are in near BU condition that I sort by years. During times that I can not get bags I go through them under a stereo microscope. Even when I find a minor one there is only a small chance that it is listed. The unlisted ones I keep in ziplock bags. If it is one that I think will show up in a listing later, I keep those in tubes. I don't have much interest in finding minor ones in below AU condition. Even if I find one it probably won't ever be worth much.

The 'tie' has been broken....... I haven't been doing the searching much, since the weather has turned for the better. I have found two each of the '98's and 2000's. Guess I have to do a bit more and catch up! Congrats, still lookin.

Oh my gosh! That is so many WAMS! I'd be lucky to find one 98. In California we don't get many Philly mint coins
