How could people say the coins are too expensive when it is in line with other $20 one oz coins put out the Mint? The July red Maple Leaf is selling for $114.95, the same price as the baseball coins. Or the Niagra Falls Hologram at $109.99, just $5 lower.
If you say the baseball coins are too expensive you can say that for most of the Mint coins.
The reason they have not been selling well is the subject matter, not the price.

Both of the coins you mentioned are overpriced too and I didn't buy them either. ( I assume you meant the Northern Lights hare not Niagara Falls) But yes, the subject - WBC is irrelevant in Canada. We've never made it past the first round in that tournament.

^^ doesn't matter about how far we got in the tournament. I think coin collectors that like baseball would get the coins anyways....if they looked better.
they are so generic. You would think they'd mention something about Team Canada, or have maybe a real engraved player on it, but instead they are real ugly pieces of art.

No one complained about the price of lady bug coin even though it only has one onze of silver. The two example you gaves, the red maple leaf and the hologram coins, they at least have something to offer other than just plain silver coin. In fact, I rather spend $74 on a SML (over priced in this case) than those baseball coin. Just saying

No interest is created by our teams continually bowing out in the first round every time they have this tournament. I mean who could forget where they were when Canada lost to Italy on March 8? I sure would like to commemorate that with a coin. But it's not even very popular in the US. This year, the Dominican Republic beat Puerto Rico in the final. yawn. IMO, no design could have saved these coin. They were a bad idea from the start and the market spoke. Quote: Most coin collectors are not that into sports as most sports jockey types are not that into coin collecting...the two just don't seem to go hand in hand... I'd be an anomaly on that I guess. Life long coin collector and a big sports fan. Plus a rapidly aging athlete to boot. Off to play hockey right now. Still there is a lot of evidence to support that sports themed coins don't do well (there are very few exceptions).

Even baseball is no longer "America's Pastime" In the USA, the NFL is king.
The tv ratings for baseball has been falling for years.

Well, lots to comment on here... commems said "...but it just might be that the RCM deserves a "free pass" on this one..." commems, do you ever not give the mint a free pass when they mess up? MoneyPenney said "...If you say the baseball coins are too expensive you can say that for most of the Mint coins..." Yup! I can say that, and I do! Also, I'm with CC-Ottawa when it comes to liking some sports. MoneyPenney, said "...In the USA, the NFL is king...." MoneyPenney, I thought ELVIS is the King. Lastly, all of you guys should be careful. Don't say Niagara F...s too loud.

I guess I am a bit more "forgiving" then some others, I don't like to make disparaging comments about others when I don't have the facts. The Mint is trying to please a large and diverse group of potential buyers, some are coin collectors but many are not. They are not going to be able to please everyone with every release. There are many releases that I am not fond of and would not purchase, but I wouldn't consider publicly chastising or belittling them for creating such coins as they may appeal to others. I'm all for folks voicing their opinions about the RCM's releases, positive or negative, they all are valid and welcome. But when folks take it to the next level and make rude comments about the Mint's staff (I've seen them called "idiots" here on CCF more than once) or make "definitive" statements about decisions/actions the Mint has taken when the poster has no facts to support their assertion - I draw the line. For me this is truly a hobby, I guess I just don't get as "worked up" as others do. All just my opinion, of course.

I've been waiting for a baseball coin and when these came out, I wanted to puke. What WOULD be cool is maybe a coin that commemorates Babe Ruth's first home run ever on Toronto Island or something along those lines.

You're absolutely righ when it comes to not tolerating personal attacks on mint employees, or anyone else for that matter. Also as you said, criticism of the institution with regard to customer service, operational practises and other systemic problems should be based on facts. However, I found it quite acceptable to criticize poor customer service, lousy quality control, make fun of designs, and other blatant mistakes. I have more than enough negative personal experiences with the RCM to justify my criticisms. And there are enough examples to go around on this forum to warrant folks publicly airing their displeasure. Sure, it's just a hobby, but it can be an expensive one. But everyone, no matter how much they spend should expect a high level of goods and service. I hope that based on the feedback the mint receives from this forum and other venues, it will make a real effort to improve. Now about those baseball coins...

Was going to order the set of 4 today from CCC and to my surprise there was a bonus offer to go with the set of 4 baseball coin. Am thinking this set could go up in value if the mintage's drop because of low sales. Anyway I bought the set , good or bad time will tell. Here is the bonus. 1 of Toronto Blue Jays 25th Season Stamp & Medallion Set ($17.93 value!) free with set order! http://www.cdncoin.com/product-p/20130715001.htm

@Cowboy905 You might find these interesting. Not RCM though. "Finalists have been chosen for the design of the National Baseball Hall of Fame commemorative coin, whittled from an initial field of 178 entries..... The Mint will produce 50,000 $5 gold coins, 400,000 $1 silver coins and 400,000 half-dollar clad coins in honor of the National Baseball Hall of Fame's 75th anniversary. Surcharges will help fund the Hall of Fame operations." http://numismaster.com/ta/numis/Art...icleId=27044

I like that one too. And the batter (row 3 column 4). The images look realistic to me which I appreciate.
