The 'bag marks' do not come from the bags in which the coins come from the Mint.
They are the result of the fact that they drop onto a pile of previously minted coins, as they are ejected from the coining presses.
They should have the same frequency of marks as any other coin newly minted coin, destined for circulation.

Hi, yes looks like a bit of time scanning them all and then 2x2s for the best, I was hoping to get at least a couple of good ones because it seems that the only good ones I have seen all have the "C" mark--so far all the double dots could all be for the grand kids. Have I read the mint blurb properly in that the Circulating coins are limited strikes, while the "C" will be struck to demand? I wonder how long it will take for the solvent kinks to find a rare mint error coin with no colour and get it on ebay? Now a serious question as I have no experience regards new coins- from appearances the lint and blue chips have stuck to whatever residual lubricant/protectant has got on the coin in production/mint processes, would it be wise to wash and dry and re-oil the coin with chemists olive oil like I oil the oldies, or is that a bad move? I think you're right about the mintages of the mintmarked and non-mintmarked coins (or at least that was my understanding too).
I wouldn't be attempting to dip these in anything let alone olive oil, just to be on the safe side.

Does look like they get knocked about.  Note if you fold the bag over with the coins like mine then place in standard bank coin bag you can stop them from rubbing any more. I was checking out the RAM website the other night and was a little amused to see they were advertising for a quality control person ... would have been tempted to apply if I lived in Canberra as the pay was pretty good and I would have been able to swim in a massive pool of coins all day, every day. The main problem (... had I applied and got the job) would have been the severe noodling drought in years to come for fellow forum members as no error coins would have got past my eagle eye ... and bulging pockets  |

I think you'll find these coins are likely to be *more* baggy than other circulating coins. The processing of the coin AFTER it has been struck and BEFORE it has been painted, and the process of being painted itself means that the coin is handled more at the mint than the average circulating coin.

Casino Chip - I like that, Squire  Found one in our Coles self serve checkout last week. They're pretty popular on ebay at the mo., though I'm keeping mine.....I don't think these will stay long in circ. and won't take much punishment - as you've seen with the RAM ones  Got a 2013 Elder $2 as well |

These are neat!
I think the extra bag marks may be due to extra handling during the colourization process - colourized Canadian (note: since it's only Commonwealth nations who have done this, let's keep the "u" in) quarters are fairly scarce in really nice condition. I like the purple, though!

Unbelievable  Sounds like an ebay add to me. Besides the fact that the Royal Australian Mint Doesn't do appraisals and verifications on coins anymore  Quote:
