Yeah, you're right. The back looks like play money, and so does Bennie's portrait.

Sorry, but I'm not agree. The 1914 $100 Bill looks great.
The 1914 Series is complete awesome. These notes were ideal in there time.
The 1914 Series was issued between 1913 - 1928.
It was a troubled time, the war in Europe and then the Great Depression.
The reverse of the US 1914 Series shows the position of the United States.
The $100 Bill told about Labor, Plenty, Peace and the Commerce.
It reminded what has made your country strong.
The 1914 series told the story of America since Columbus.
For me as a foreigner and collector of U.S. Large Size Notes is the 1914 Series a total work of art. I love the 1914ers.
Sometimes I can inspire other collectors in Germany for my Americans.
I say them always, start with the 1914ers. This notes talk about the development and the soul of a Nation.
I do not like the new colorful Americans and the new plastic Canadians are ugly.
Our Euros are also ugly. I think the most modern bills are only cash, they have no soul and no spirit.
Sorry for my bad English

Ouch!

I'd take that personally, but I didn't design them, and the all I care about is that they are there for me to spend!

Have to ask though, what don't you like about them. They are very similar to the last series.

Sorry noahs-numismatics,
I do not like the new plastic Bills. Only the $50 Bill is OK.
The Euro is the ugliest, a real disaster.
I do not like collect modern Currency.
Only Scotland and Northern Ireland currently issue beautiful Bills. Castles and Knights, I like it.
The best designed Canadian Bills are the 1954 Series, awesome!
But the preferences are different.

The reasons I included that note:
1) It tries to look official. Like, TOO official, down to the seals, the microfibers, the rigid formality... It's the Federal Reserve taking their biggest leap of faith. Most other FRNs of after this time simply usurped other silver and gold certificates in a self-enthroning manner.
2) It looks like a half-finished doodle. I'm no art critic but the note looks like an old sailor's tattoo: it's ugly and green and what-the-heck-is-it-supposed-to-be? It's kind of like a pig in a tuxedo.

Compare this $100 to old treasury bills and certificates from 2-3 decades earlier.

I love the back of that $100, great artwork. I personally think the compound-interest notes are the ugliest with the gold overprints.

For me is no American Bill really ugly.
But if I have to choose a Bill, then I take the new colorful $ 20.
Not only the eagle looks bad.
Yes, the new $ 20 is for me the ugliest American bill of all times.
They are only good to spend...

Personally, the only US banknote that is really ugly is the new $5, Even the 10¢ and the $100 are classy. I wish they had made the new $5 purple OR green. Right now I can't tell what color it is, and it just ends up looking like puke.
