Looking at it on the little iPhone screen and I'd say MS62. The clash is doubled on the reverse, there is a double profile I can make out, very cool. I'm thinking the strike is a touch weak due to all the clashing, the dies are wearing out, and rim Cuds are beginning to form all around the coin. Not really seeing any wear or rub.

I have this one as circulated. The wear on III doesn't really hit me as strike-related.

3CN are really tough due to the composition. Since the leaves on the reverse are showing very slight wear and the fact that the III is set lower this would indicate that what looks like wear on the III is mostly weak strike. There is also some light wear on the cheek and in the hair. The issue with this coin is that it appears to have been dipped or cleaned. I have to say AU details

My initial impression was AU-55 or 58.

oih82w8: If this were my coin, I would NOT trade it.
There are too many interesting things going on with it, and it is highly educational.

The numismatist and the coin collector within me are having an argument, and the numismatist is winning. Needs to be fully written up, and enclosed in a cardboard / mylar 2x2.

sel_69l, my demons within are having the same debate; trade it or hold on to it. 1865-Three-Cent-Nickel---What-Do-You-Think?-Raw

I got in too late last night from my part-time job to take some different images, hopefully tonight will be better.

Wow! Clash, Cud, cracks, that one is a 3cn collectors delight! I am waffling on the grade, high AU / low MS. I have looked at it too long to commit.

Might just be me but I think I see some wear on the hair.

I'm seeing wear on the new photos, the first set of photos posted defintely sold me on the coin. I'm in at AU53 now. Still liking all the stuff going on with this, die clashes, rim Cuds, die breaks.

Your photos show noe of the luster I was seeing on the first set of photos, what is it more like in visual appearence? first shots or second shots?

It appears that the OP images were saturated with light, don't you hate that? Yes, there is definite wear, and the actual coin is somewhere in between the the OP and the above images, I will break out the Jansjos tonight for another attempt. I pulled back slightly on the angle which probably did not help the darkened area at the six o'clock position.

That is a seriously nice coin. There is just a bit of wear but it's so nice I'll have to go with AU63.
