I'm doing a date set of Barber quarters and halves, but only have a couple of each as of now (I've got several series going on at one time...). I got blank Littleton green folders for each one and just carefully and neatly wrote in the dates in order. It doesn't matter to me what the mint mark is so I can try to get the best deal for each date. Mine so far are G to F - I like circulated coins :)

Kevro, thanks I'll look into that. Sounds like we are collecting the same thing.

You can actually buy printed dates from Littleton that you can transfer onto the album spots.

Thanks for the suggestion about the folders, I'll check it out. The depressing news is I check out some of the quarters on ebay, many seemed over priced, over graded or both! Even the overpriced Red Book lists, for example a 1915 in VG at $10. This the 2013 Red Book, printed when silver was $30 something an ounce. There was nothing on ebay in this price and this condition. I looked though 350 listings. The ones that actually looked VG were like $20+! I guess this is going to be harder than I thought. Correct me if I am wrong, but one is supposed to see a few letters of liberty for a VG and at least parts of all letters for Fine? For this type and condition of coin buy raw coins seems the only feasible way to go. Yes?

The PCGS grading app is a great tool for grading coins - and half the time I end up opening it up just to look at the pics.

Whitman too has blank Albums covers, blank pages, rub on numbers/letters in Gold or Black. You could easily make your own Album. Or you could simply buy a Barber quarter Album and cover the dates with a Felt tip marker and still make your own Album. With Whitman it's easy since the Albums are dard Blue and a Dark blue felt tip marker is almost the same color. If not particular, you could still get an Album with removable pages and turn them upside down. Again, if it bothered you, you could still use a felt tip marker to cover the info now on the back of the page.

The three big keys are fairly unobtainable. Outside of them, however, there's really only 2-3 more that are even tough at all in fairly circulated condition and maybe you could get them eventually. You could simply by a nice complete Dansco or Whitman album for them and just put another quarter in those three spots if you don't want any holes. A Barber quarter date set doesn't really have that many coins in it (25), frankly, and you'd be leaving out so many easily obtainable ones.

Thanks for the tips. With a little more looking on ebay there seems to be some G/VG in the $8-$10 range. I'll look into the album options. Why are many listings priced over the Red Book? Wishful thinking? Just wondering. Most completed sales seem to be Red Book price or lower.

I started and bought four different dates of quarters off ebay all for about $10 each. Thanks for the advice. There are certainly a lot on there, and many common dates in good or worse listed for $15+. I guess people have wishful thinking, or perhaps there are a lot of impulse buyers. It's a lot of fun looking. I think I may go with a regular album (dansco or other) with blank pages. One or two pages for quarters and one or two+ for Barber halves. Then I can write in the dates in with a sharpie or other marker . Not going focus on different mint marks for now. An album won't take up much space.. And no blanks holes for the pricey key dates! This should keep me busy for a few months.

Buy it now most of the time is higher, if you can be online when the auctions end and snipe bid you will get better deals. OR look into a sniper program to do it for you.

I did a lot of ebay browsing, and already some Barber quartes arrived: 1898, 1899, 1902. They are all in good condition, no major flaws and they're what I was looking for. Half hunter: thanks for the sniping advise, that seemed to work, but you really need a lot of spare time. I'll look into a program. I'll post photos soon. Oh, And I decided to ordered airtites for now. It may be a bit much for these coins, but it is easy to look at them in the airtites.

I added these to the 1914 that I have. They are all from the Philadelphia mint. I think I will try for a bit more detail, but I like these.
