I'll never trade, sell or give away my "children". Once I acquire a coin, it's gonna stay with me till my kids find the key to the safe. Hopefully that is when I'm a stiff. I've even thought of taking a Morgan set with me. Although truth be told, I'm quite conflicted about that. Maybe one coin in one hand and a loupe in the other.

It all depends on the coin for me. Most of them Ill sell/trade to put towards something else I need or want but some I will keep if I really like them both.

I sell mine; if selling wasn't such a pain, I'd do it more often but I find it annoying. That's why I prefer not to buy a coin unless it is the exact grade/appearance as I want. Of course it takes me more time to complete a set, but I guess that's what makes the hobby fun to begin with!

I now only buy the grade that I want and will be happy with so upgrading won't be a problem. It's just not that easy selling the lower grade coins for a reasonable price where I am.

When I upgrade MY set the lower grade goes to my kids albums and then the kids lower grade goes to the grandkids albums and then those go back into circulation, maybe.

I do one of three things depending on the coin... 1. Give them away to a young collector. Helps the hobby... 2. Trade them 3. Sell them the last two really depend on the coin. Number 1 comes up most often. There isn't anything better than seeing how a youngster's eyes light up when you give them a coin they don't have...

The only "upgrades" I have done have been Walking Liberty halves. With the exception of the 1938 d the worn coins of my youth have gone to my silver stack.

I sell them on ebay. My problem is that I can't let go of some duplicates, triplicates.. Coin collecting becomes an addiction

I sell them to help offset the cost of upgrading!

Raw coins that get upgraded get handed down to my daughter at Christmastime.
Slabbed coins get put in the sell/trade stash. I rarely get around to selling, since, as was mentioned, it is a pain. However, I really love to put together a good trade!
Knowing myself, I need to set limits on my collection. So if a coin doesn't fill a slot, it goes (eventually).

When I upgrade a coin in one of my albums I've started putting the old ones into a folder and if there's a coin in the folder it goes into a tube.
It works like this: Album > Folder > Tube
(I should really sell/trade some of these coins...)
