Obviously itd be nicer to only sell 40 to pay for the rest, but in the end free coins are free coins. Id take buying 100 coins and turning it into 20 free ones any day of the week

@ Demarco: even with inflation, I'm in the black :)

@ bekiz: the margin on bullion is thin as we all know, a net of 10% I would consider as a very good haul on a sale. With that in mind, unfortunately it's more like buying 100 and selling 95. I also started collecting/stacking/selling during the run up to $50/oz for silver so I consider it quite a feat to come this far

But, like Mcerc and baseball suggested, the grin that comes up when I look at my coins is now much much wider :)

so based on your experience, what types of coins sells fast, and what types of coins have big profit?

NCLT, bullion or semi numis like pandas?

I unfortunately had to sell the Ural Owl to fund another purchase. My folks own another one that they bought off me for $150 though. But, they are not biting on my suggestion for them to gift that Owl to their grandson :P

@Silverbug:

- Smaller weights sell faster but consequently require more time and comes with more risk dealing with a higher number of trades.

- Semi numismatics (e.g. wildlife series SML, proofs, JM and Engelhard bars) do better than straight up bullion. Combined with good presentation and patience, the risk of a dip in spot affecting your sale is mitigated.

- Smaller fraction gold has surprisingly done very well for us even during this latest dip. Sell what other's are not selling may be the take home message.

- Lastly patience. This is, after all, our hobby and not our livelihood. It was hard learned but we did develop (some) restraint when itching to pull the trigger on a purchase or sale.

This forum has helped a lot, and it never ceases to ooze with good info. I'm now getting a good schooling on price action and watching the trends from one of the longest threads I've seen yet here.

Glad to see you and wife are still alive in pm game and doing well with it as I have not seen you post much in recent years and did not know if you guys were still on the PM train....

Remember we all got into this long term in mind and now I see low prices as opp to ad more then ever nothing more or less....

Anytime in history can anyone say they could walk into a kings vault or someone of similar stature and see large amounts of gold or silver and NOT see the value in it regardless of spot price at anytime in Earths history?

Again if it falls more or remains where it is, why not add as much as possible and when the day comes when one needs money it is there to convert into currency?

All the high end premium stuff you always went after is not been affected much by spot price anyhow I figure, another way many of us protect the investment....

Thanks Hawk, I still have a few pieces of the silver I bought from you way back when, for $50/oz too! :P We've both come pretty far since eh?

My next goal?... What I have been doing in putting aside a few fractional gold pieces away for my boy whenever I have the chance and means to do so. I've stacked up a fair bit in the 2 years since he's been born. There's a possibility he'll be joined buy a bother or sister, so I've gotta start another pile. My next goal is to have both of their stacks paid off and keep this small venture going to keep paying for their stacks.

I've gotta start something different for the next one as well. Right now I have 1/10oz gold maples for my boy, so maybe 1/10oz platinum for the next one? haha~

I am impressed. I always buy things with the intention of flipping it later to help pay off my collection. I always end up keeping it though, even it if is grubby, slick and a duplicate. I'm resigned to the fact that it will be someone elses problem at a future date.
