Very sad news, but from what I have heard, he led a wonderful life. A huge contributor to the hobby, he will be missed by many.

Huge loss to all Canadian collectors,..but at 102 he definitely lived a long and meaningful life. We have much to thank him for..

May Jim Charlton rest in peace and my condolences go out to his family. Hadn't it been for Jim Charlton, the world and hobby of numismatics wouldn't be where it is today. His research and publications should be educated for future generations.

Here's the copy of the book I got freshly released at the 2001 RCNA (then CNA) convention in Quebec City. I think that was the first time meeting him, but I'm not certain.

 CHARLTON, James E. - (Coinman to Canadians) Peacefully at the Hamilton General Hospital on Friday, September 20, 2013 at 7:34:35 a.m. in his 103rd year. James, beloved husband of 68 years to Mary (nee Tyndall). Loving father of James R. and his wife Pamela. Dear Grandpa of Daniel, Trevor and wife Christa, great-grandchildren Lucas, Dexter and Lillyana. Visitation in the GIFFEN-MACK "DANFORTH" FUNERAL HOME, 2570 Danforth Ave. (at Main St. subway), 416-698-3121, on Saturday, September 28th from 11 a.m. until time of Service in the Giffen-Mack Chapel at 1 p.m. Interment to follow at St. John's Norway Cemetery. "James will be dearly missed by members of the Numismatic Association." In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by his family. R.I.P. Mr. Charlton Glenn
