 Rick I have moved this to the US Classic Coin section, since the picture was Indian Head cents. CCF has a wide variety of sections. Try to post them in the appropriate section, and we like pictures  |

Yes he did  . Any 1877s in the group? Unfortunately that is the only I know to ask about off the top of my head - I am sure wiser minds will chime in. |

Welcome to the CCF, Rick. My folks passed many years ago, and I treasure the mementos that they left in my possession; likely, as you do, your Dad's coins. I still have one coin that my Dad gave me, being a lead, counterfeit 1918 Walking Liberty half dollar. He wasn't a coin collector, but that helped pique my interest when I was a kid, over fifty years ago. As to your question ... I'd suggest that you buy a copy of the "Guide Book of U.S. Coins" by Yeoman; this, if your father didn't already have that book. You might also buy some 2x2 coin holders or flips, along with plastic pages to house those flips (20 to a page) in a three ring binder. You might want to make the stapling, labeling and organizing by date and denomination, a family project. Grandkids would love this! Once you have the collection organized, you can study grading and value. Let's see what some others think of this suggested approach ... Edited by ExoGuy

Welcome Rick,
Nice batch of IHC`s. I have a few I have had for many years and probably have them to hand down to my grandson that I got into coins last year.
Do you have a GSX buick by chance? Old Cars are my hobby and I have a 64 Wildcat Convert I have had since 1979. I'm getting back into coins as they are easier to store.

Just so it's clear, Rick (as Fuzzy mentioned), you're welcomed and encouraged to post as many images as you like of your coins. Numismatics is a very visual hobby. You'll find our forum software automatically thumbnails whatever you post to an acceptable size based on the individual reader's browser settings, so the original size of your images isn't relevant. You've obviously got a pretty decent camera setup, so let 'er fly! |

Always good to see new members and possibly new coin collectors. It is a fun hobby and also educational. As already noted you may want to look into purchasing something called the Red Book by Whitman Publishing. Usually available at hobby stores, coin stores, coin shows, many places on line such as Amazon. All those Indian Head cents are a great way to start. Also, a great momento of a person now passed on. Another thing to do is use the search tab on this forum for past posts about cleaning coins. Basically don't. It is a confusing world about cleaning things. A dirty car appears to be worth less and would not sell easy. A cleaned coin has now lost much value. A dirty house doesn't sell well. Dirty and/or not cleaned coins are preferrable. |

I sent the URL because the URL has the picture at HIGH-DEF that way people can Zoooooom in and view the condition and dates of the coins.. but thank you anyway..!! I will look into that book. He had a TON of coin books but I got rid of most of them when I sold the house. To be honest, I really dont intend to keep much of them, I'm more concerned of their value first and do the assessment from there. But thank you for the advice. Garys64Wildcat... Hey Gary.. I'm a HUGE Car guy myself, but the GSX is not the car reference.. Its a reference to a Suzuki GSXR race bike that I had. I do however have a 700 RWHP Cobra that I built for Show/Street.. So let me ask you this.. are there specific date ranges for these IHC coins that have more value over another..? and for that matter, is there any value to the coins that I present other than monetary value that was handed down from my father..? The 1877 is a coveted coin in any grade including problems.
If you do in fact have one, put it in an envelope, away from the others in fact, any you find that solotime listed. The 1908-S is also a desirable date but not exceedingly rare.
Do not clean them, ever. Also, don't let them bang together in a jar or bag. It will cause damage to the coins. Coin tubes from a local coin shop is your best bet ;)
