I can handle a cleaned coin, but not a fake.

Oh I know that it is an awesome deal as long as it is real. That's my only fear is that it was too good of a deal. The good luck isn't with me very often.

How often do you get such a golden tone to them. And predominatly on the raised surfaces vs the background?

I believe that is a result of the cleaning.

Your new pictures lead me to believe the coin is a fake. The 9 in the date is completely wrong.

And what about the harsh crack near the R on the obverse? I'm still new to Morgan's as I'm too cheap to buy the nicer ones. I usually stick to the worn dimes and V nickels. Morgan's have always been one of my favorites though.

Is it not a thread? Did I click on the wrong thing?

I understand now with the edit. Sorry 15 hour shifts make reading between the lines hard.

So if it is real and cleaned I'm keeping it. If it is fake I'll send it back and buy more cheap worn out mercs. What should I do. I'm so lost and being in England and wanting to have a us coin checked out leaves me with the Internet as my only authentication method. At this point any opinions are welcome.

So I can't confirm real or fake. I'm keeping it. I've made note to have it checked out the next time that I make it back to the states. If it turns out fake then I'll mark it and throw it into a separate binder. Worse comes to worse I'll have a learning piece.

Looks counterfeit. Take a close look at the R and I in Pluribis. that complete part looks like an extra addition coming forth from the cap. It shouldn't look like that, the font also looks off.

Like a few other members, I am suspicious. The date and the mintmark don't look right.

Definitely fake. Without a doubt. The 9 in the date is a smoking gun.

I agree this looks like a fake. The mintmark especially jumps out as having the wrong font, so to speak. Return it, I say!
