Where these found in Israel? The dry earth there would explain the coin being preserved so well.

Beautiful byzantine coin the first one. Love the stare on both sides, very penetrating.

The second coin I think that's the head of Tyche. Look for Phoenician coins on wildwinds and you'll come
across some very close coins to yours.

The third one look a Phoenician coin too to me. Maybe struck in Berytus(beirut, Lebanon now).

The second coin looks like Brockage. The detail of the Tyche is incuse rather than "proud".

Thank you all for the leads, it would take me a while to follow through on them and see if I find a match.
I will let you know if I do.

Someone passed a small collection to me and I'm trying to identify the ones that are not yet identified.
Sadly, I don't know where they were found. I'm only asking about coins that I had trouble identifying.
I have Phocas, Maurice Tiberius, Constans II, etc. coins that were much easier to identify, so I guess they are not that rare. Perhaps the first coin is rare, I just thought someone must have seen one before and would know exactly what it is.

How do I know if a coin is silver and not bronze without a special machine. I noticed gold and silver coins usually have larger margins, so I believe none of the ones I have is silver or gold.
I should note that I played with the contrast and brightness of the pictures, so it was easier to see.
The coins are a darker black and I don't want to risk cleaning or applying any treatment to them.
The pictures are not the best quality, I haven't mastered the art yet, the details are clearer than in the pictures when you hold the coins in your hand.

I have some Pontus coins and the second coin looked like it could be Pontus due the material, but obviously I was mistaken and now I have leads that will help me find it. If it's a Brockage, I guess it will make it harder, since I don't know what's the original image and what's the later one.

The condition of these is great, so it's easier to know what to look for. I have some coins that it would be a much harder task to identify, because of the condition.

Here's a few that I can still make:

Help-With-Identifying-Some-Coins

Looks like a palm tree, but I haven't managed to find something exactly like it.

Help-With-Identifying-Some-Coins

Looks like a head on one side and a man in a cape on the other.

I've seen this head before, but on the other side there a figure, perhaps and angel in a dress. Sorry the picture is not very good, it should be much clearer.

Thank you for all your assistance.

I believe you are correct on the Tyche head, the brockage image threw me off. Does it make the coin more valuable?

The head looks like the Arados, Phoenicia coins design, but I'm not sure about the other side, haven't found a match yet.

As for the third coin, it does look like Gorgoneion design, though I'm not sure which one and whether it's silver and I see the Phoenician also have similar bull design.

Thanks again

The second coin in your latest batch I believe is a Roman provincial of Caracalla from Nicaea, Bythnia.

The hooded figure on the reverse is Telesphoros who was a sort of agent or assistant to the popular cult of Aesklepios of that time

Similar coin here though not likely an exact match: http://www.acsearch.info/record.html?id=222050

You're quite good as this! I thought it was a priest in some cult, like you see on TV.

I've made good progress with your help. Thank you.

I quickly photographed another very fine coin.
I believe it's Roman and it would be easy to identify because of the great detail.

I would appreciate the help.

I think it's either Hadrian or Claudius, but I haven't been able to recognize the temple, could the coin be silver?

The coin appears to be Roman provincial, but I'm not able to read the reverse legend to tell what province.

You should start a new thread whenever you add another coin. You have a better chance of more people looking at a new thread rather than the old one.

Thanks, I didn't want to flood the forum with threads, people might
not take it kindly.

I took the photos with a flash, as it was nighttime, maybe
I'll re-shoot.

I found a photo of a coin with similar temple, sadly with no reference
to the source.

I thought it would help if I knew what temple it is.

[edit: this is regarding the last coin the OP posted on p. 1, and I agree that it is best to post one unknown coin per thread to avoid confusion.]

I think it's Elagabalus. There are several provinces which have reverses similar to this. A quick search of wildwinds and CNG archives did not yield an exact match but several are very close. What I can make out of your obverse legend looks like the Elagabalus legend for these similar coins.

Check these provinces of Phoenicia: Tyre, Sidon, Orthosia, Botrys, Byblos.

If you are searching wildwinds, go to the emperor's page (with thumbnails) and do a 'find on page', type in 'temple'.

Thank you very much, I will do that from now on.

You pointed me in the right direction, I think it's the Temple or statue of Astarte - "favorite goddess of the Sidonians, Tyrians, Philistines, and Syro-Phoenicians generally" - because of the angel on the pedestal next to her.
Though there appears to be a few versions, mine's holding a cane and not a scepter.

I'll let you know if I find a definite match in regards to who exactly the Caesar head belongs to, perhaps I'll get a better photo of the legend.

Cheers
