Hobby only, more fun that way.

I found this thread because I thought it would be interesting to poll how many (like me) have never sold a coin. This poll doesn't quite cover it, but I guess it's close enough. As others said, people who primarily flip coins for profit probably aren't hanging out here, so the "never sell" percentage would probably be skewed.

Pure hobby. No interest in ever selling, unless so strapped it was unavoidable. And even then I'd sell a kidney first.

Completely hobby. However, I do like finding great deals well below market value!! I have sold off coins in the past, unfortunately. Due to a business that needed the cash, about 2 years ago, I sold off my Morgan dollar, Walking Liberty and Barber half dollar collections, mostly for spot at the time. So far, I have mostly rebuilt my Walking Liberty half collection (mostly MS), and about 10% of my Morgans. More to follow. (Yes, the business is doing well! Thanks for asking!) So, I guess, I'm a collector, investor (for my ancestors' future), and also an upgrader and a rebuilder!!

Started out as hobby for me but now I deal in coins. Collectors who have bought from me tend to notice that I take a collectors approach to what I sell --- and avoid the junk out there --- when you are a dealer too much of the wrong stuff and you have the spiders spinning their webs on it and that's no good. The bottom line --- if you wouldn't put it in your collection or wouldn't buy if you collected that series then don't expect the next guy too. At that point it is either face value, bullion, or bulk.

the only reason I sell coins is to buy ones I like better!
ME TOO! Those who "invest" in coins will never understand our love of coins. Hobby first, potential gain a distant second.

atchisonbj, The best dealers are those who maintain the heart of a collector. A "collector's approach" - MUCH wisdom in that phrase.
