Quote: Must be someone who's not into collecting coins, perhaps. they are a brick a mortar coin store, I would assume they know their stuff (regardless of who's handwriting is on the flip). granted, the few times I've visited they seemed standoff'ish, arrogant and generally annoyed that customers were in the store trying to spend money. I won't go back and refuse to buy from them on ebay regardless if it is a good deal or not. as for BU, I would have to guess that is in relation to " Bought Unused"

I would think that someone not au fait with coins enters their ebay listings.

Yes, Bob Armstrong's writing on the 2x2, I have a few with his writing, as for BU, I suppose the seller is saying it was Bought by them Unused..

There are MANY people who attempt to copy Mr. Armstrongs hand writing in order to achieve more for a coin. I believe that this is a case of that.

I considered that, and being knowledgable about handwriting, it's always possible, but I've watched this seller for some time and he has a lot of the Bob Armstrong writing flips that show no red flags to me. This one caught my eye as 'out of the norm' for Armstrong writing though: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1954-CANADA...em27da67e2e4

The thing with Phil's scans is that it is always so hard to grade from them.

That is a long time attribute of Canadian retailers of all kinds. They seem to have failed to comprehend the fundamental role customers serve in generating revenue for their business.

Of course it was Bought Unused - how could you spend it when it's stuck inside a cardboard flip?

The coin in picture looks not too bad...even it's not BU, it's something similar.

no problems with Phil, I would guess his sense of humour has passed by unnoticed! Of course he knows what BU is . Looks like a pretty nice MS63 on my computer and it sure likes like Bob Armstrong hand writing.

Ya'... where's your sense of ha - ha
Perhaps in this time of "remembrance and honoring" we could show more tolerance when picking apart someone in our hobby / profession that has achieved a measure of success in it that seems worthy of mention.
Guy's got over 1500 positive feedback during past 12 months - 3 neutral, and zero negative.
4.9s / 5 across the board in "Detailed Seller Ratings" for "Item as Described", "Communication" "Shipping Charges & Time".
Speaking from experience, this is not an easy rating to achieve given how fussy us coin collectors are - how argumentative we can be about our opinion on grades - and how demanding buyers are becoming in regards to cost & speed of shipping.
Obviously seller was just trying to inject some "humour" into the ebay listing process - something maybe that needs to happen around here a little more

Good job Scott!! Maybe its time we start picking on the buyers! Why is it the sellers seem to get the crappy end all the time. Most are good and honest and would be happy to fix any mistake they may have made. I have bought and sold ALOT on ebay and have never had any real issues that couldn't be fixed...maybe I have been lucky, I don't know but I think some are just to quick to jump all over others. In fairness, I don't think this post was made to discredit the seller...lets face it, it is a rather funny listing. Lets keep each other safe with the REAL scammers

Yes, I would agree that OP DBM's intent was to point out the "humour" in the listing - but brought out a few offside (IMHO), comments from the sidelines.
It's so easy on these forums to get critical - and while I support wholeheartedly that we inform each other about scammers, frauds, counterfeits, poor business principles and the like - I think we should "think" about it for a minute before we make disparaging comments about someone earning their keep from this hobby / profession, when it appears that they have earned some modicum of respect.
As mentioned, it is not an easy task to achieve and keep high feedback rating when selling volume amount of coins on ebay.
