paleoguy45, I can't really tell from the photos you posted for sure. Is there a tiny die chip under the G of IGWT? Is the N of In recut? Any die cracks on the reverse (even tiny ones) you can find?

I believe this is a business strike and not a circulated proof, quite a nice piece too! There seem to be many die cracks on the reverse, I just can't make out if there is recutting on the lower right of the N in IGWT, but it looks like it. also can't tell if there is a small triangular die chip under the G in God. But I'd say it's a business strike from what I can tell.

PennyGuy is pretty knowledgeable as well maybe he can chime in on this one too.

Thanks WestCoin for cluing me in on the reverse die cracks. They do match those illustrated on PCGS Coinfacts.

to the CCF

This "1872" looks to be a poorly executed counterfeit. Here's a cropped pic of it. Compare the large date to that on a genuine coin.

@CoinFrog .... IMHO, the new poster's coin, a counterfeit 1872 Two Cent Piece, is on topic. Posting here was a good way to get WestCoin's attention, methinks. After all, he's our resident specialist on this series, it seems.

I think suggesting he's a hijacker is a tad harsh. He's more like a hitchhiker, like me.

Richflo, definitely a fake coin, same coin from same Chinese dies that was first posted, date is all wrong. They are other problems but your coin is not real.
