Canada Post Nightmare!

Something is wierd. I don't quite see how the city name and the postal code area can be mistaken twice - it does say Calgary and the Canadian post code is something like L4R 2S4 (made up) and yet it wasn't verified.

I find it pretty difficult to understand what is going on with the Canadian postal service.

Nevertheless, I really hope that you did request insurance else it's a total loss.

I'm actually curious - did you actually told the seller to lower the value of the content so that you aren't forced to pay taxes? I heard that Canadians must pay taxes on anything that's over 25 dollars. If it was declared the full value, I'm sure it is stuck at the customs somewhere but honestly I smell something is fishy.

In the 6 years that I have been with ebay I have only been dinged 5 or 6 times for duty and taxes. I think it is a random thing they do. The real killer is if someone sends a parcel via UPS or another courier because not only will they add taxes and duty on behalf of the government, they will add their fees for doing it. A guy once sent an item won on ebay via UPS, and when I picked it up they wanted an extra $45.00 before they gave it to me. I had only paid $70.00 for the item, but the seller put the declared value at $300.00 so I was charged taxes and duty accordingly.

I recently mailed a package of coins to Bromac in Canada. Hope he gets them okay.

I don't know the actual details here, or how the conversation with the person that received went. It is possible the seller photoshopped your address.

It's also possible the guy who got the package is feeding you a line. He would have the tracking number no matter who's name was on the package. Was the guy able to prove that he actually bought some items from the same seller? Could he supply an item number from a recently ended auction? Seems pretty coincidental that he had a similar address to yours, & won an auction of similar items during the same time period.

I hope you get this sorted out, it really bites to get ripped off, no matter who does it to you.

***- I went back & reread all the posts, & it looks like I was a little confused on the address. I thought the guy who got the package had the same street name. After rereading the posts I can see that was just a speculation.

I got an email from the seller today, this is what he said:

Now he's saying I already picked up the item and told him I didn't. I don't know what to do with this guy, He has my $300.00 and now he is lying to my face. WHAT ELSE DOES HE WANT?

pattiewhack, are you sure you know what you are exactly claiming. If the value of what you paid for is indeed 300 dollars, where it should be at is currently in the customs, waiting until you pay the taxes or it will be sent back to the UK. At rare instances, the contents will be destroyed.

Now back to the story - if you do claim that some other guy has the exact same tracking number as what the seller has sent you, you MUST get this guy to take photos of it (for evidence), and forward all the photos (including what the seller has sent to you) and all emails that you have made contact with the seller to ebay protection,scam service (not too sure of the exact name). I don't know what the chances of you recovering all of your money back but since it's not insured (from the tone of this), you might have to settle for partial refund.

The guy who picked up the package with the same tracking number as me picked up his own package, not mine. He showed me a link to the item he had bought from the same seller, and proved the winning account was his by sending me a message from it. The seller said he would send me another item free of charge as a goodwill offering, which is OK with me. I think it's finally over...

I guess so... the tracking number (when I track it online) says it was picked up in Ontario (across the country from me) and so I tracked him down (using only his last name and the first initial of his first name) and gave him a call. He had bought a package from the same seller and that package had the same tracking number as mine. He was able to prove his package was not the one I was looking for.
