USArmyParatrooper: Nice coin. Try copying the picture from the ebay lot. Sometimes you can copy and paste it. Good luck.

OK I'm not sure if this was sarcastic or not but if it's true, you passed possibly up a couple thousand dollars. Andrew

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!! I'm done with Three-Legs! I'm going after an 09-S VDB and I will NOT be buying from this seller. Take a look at the picture. There's a gouge that I did not see at first. I brought it to my trusted dealer and he saw it right away. There's no way if the gouge was seen it would have graded 58. I just suck. So here's a picture of the gouge, and below it their ebay photo where the light hits it perfectly (to hide it). I'm zero for two thus far. As much as I try to learn, be patient and careful, it seems I have a difficult time making smart buying choices. So it's going back tomorrow and my journey continues. I have some 09-S VDB's I'm looking at. But still, thanks for all the help and advice along the way! This website has been a God sent.

That sucks, although It could have been much, much worse. Like if it was fake or the gouge was really noticible. It really isn't that bad. I still like it!

You're right, pattie. It really isn't that bad. Had I paid for AU-50 or 53 I would be OK with it. But I paid for what was supposed to be a superb 58. It's more of a hassle of returning it and the shipping fees.

Maybe I can tell people the gash was made by a hunter? Yes, by NGC!

I think NGC is a little easy with the 3 legged. I purchased one a few months ago from HJ BERK that NGC graded as AU53 and our family here at CCF all agreed maybe XF45 to AU50, however I am still happy with my purchase and its always nice to cross a coin off the Want list....
By the way....Congrats on your purchase

Tpatna I agree that they are liberal with the 3 legged Buffalo, but, supposedly this was a polished die, therefore, there would (by cleaning of the die) be less details even on an unc.

I still think it is a nice coin and one worthy to be in any collection. I don't see the gouge; guess the bottom line is how you feel about the price and what it will conjure up inside of you everytime you look at it. I will trade you one that is GUARANTEED to have ALL four legs for it!

If you look toward the botom of page 1 I posted a picture of it. I agree it's a very nice coin, worthy of keeping. BUT, I paid a premium for an exceptional AU58 exmaple, borderline mint state. The gouge is very visible to the naked eye and cannot be ignored. quote: I will trade you one that is GUARANTEED to have ALL four legs for it!
That's a deal! Thanks! :)

I know the exact feeling you're going through. I can't tell you how many times I get excited about a coin, that I EVEN SEE IN HAND at a show, buy it, scan it at home to show off, and then notice something obvious in the scan (like a bad hit) that I was too stupid to notice before. If I can't return it to the dealer, I end up moving it. The problem, when I discover it, is just too much of a distraction for me.
If the problem is truly a distraction for you, then I can see why you might want to move it. The gouge doesn't appear all that extreme and if it was, it probably would never slab. That said, when you're ready to sell it, go to a big show and a dealer will likely pay you fairly nicely for it.

It's getting returned as of today, and now I have my sights set on a 1909-S VDB penny. I already started a wheat set collection, so why not get the main key out of the way. That and we're coming up on the 100 year mark for the Victor D Brenner design.

Rule of thumb for ebay: Never buy raw coins that are over $50. Always buy GRADED SLABBED coins from either PCGS, NGC, or ANACS. Don't buy graded coins from the other slabbers as these are the most trusted three. Check feedback of the seller before buying to see if it is good and if they will take back a coin for mis-representation. Since it appears that the buyer did not "disclose" this in his ad, then you should be able to get your money back easily for misrepresentation. ebay doesn't like this and will boot a seller if they misrepresent their merchandise (ie: if they get a complaint that is valid). Check into it before you hold onto this coin too long! Good luck!
