Well, this is obviously a move/adjustment to the new digital world. Newspaper delivery is already being phased out... I for one will be making a move to receive my bills via e-mail and pay bills electronically. I'll be sending more correspondence including greeting cards online. Lately mail consists of an overwhelming amount of junk. Now why don't they get rid of junk mail? I don't want to have to pick up my mail just to get a bunch of useless coupons, flyers, CC promos, etc. Why doesn't CP transfer the junk mail to flyer delivery only and mail important letters once a week door-to-door? BTW, does anyone know how to take one's name of the "junk mail" list?

Where I live there's a form you sign at the post office requesting no junk mail. Also for 9 yrs I live where the entire town of 10,000 uses these mailboxes. There is no mess in the streets and I don't recall any complaints either about flyer mess.

Thanks pocket change, I'll request the "no junk mail" from my local PO. Hope it works!

I have a distinct feeling that the changes they are suggesting will not be as drastic as they announced. Canada post employee for over 21 years and I say ..................privatize it! Get innovative and think like a business! The real problem with Canada post is ( and this is a bit simplistic) they have no idea whether they are a service or a business.

As an aside, a Canada Post van just pulled up outside my house and delivered a parcel to me in the heart of our first major snow storm... and it's Sunday.

Costco still sells the Permanent stamps for $63 including tax for a roll of 100 stickers, all Canada Post locations no longer sell the 'P' stamps. So for those of you looking to make a guaranteed 50% or higher return, go to Costco and buy those stamps! Who knows, you may actually double your investment return when you sell the stamps 10 years from now!

Took a look last Friday and my Costco had already switched over.

I was able to buy a roll of stamps from Costco this past Sunday for $60+tax. I guess they haven't gotten around to change the price at the one I went to.

I asked about the stamps while at Costco this morning and they had run out of the permanent rolls earlier and were selling rolls of 63 cent stamps now.

"P" rolls still available at my local Costco as of this morning. My Post Office said they were told to stop selling them on the day of the announcement and that they all had to be returned. However, "collector" panes or ones that had a P stamp, US stamp, and International stamp together in a set of 3 may still be available for purchase.

good bye canada post. now that the official post office standpoint is seniors want to be healthy, (maybe they do but not by slipping on the ice and snow getting to the mail); so along with the price increase, I think it will be the final push for them to get into technology and have all of their bills/payments done online.

To add to the 'monopoly' debate Canada Post has over domestic letter delivery... When going to school for my Logistics designation I learned that it is legislated that private carriers have a prices 3.5x that of the crown corporation. In fact CP does NOT have a monopoly on lettermail delivery (otherwise it would be illegal for a courier to offer lettermail deliveries). They DO have a legal pricing advantage, until the union, pensions, and geographic commitment erode it Whether the latest increase will force other carriers to increase their rates accordingly- possibly but I'm not sure
