Are there any die pairings which would help me to identify the mintmark.

Wow, that has got to be the most abused coin I have ever seen! There is no way of telling as far as I know.

Some of the die pairing aficionados might be able to narrow it down but it still sux at the end of the day.

Count the reeding. Only one reeding count is shared between any of the three mints - 154 could be either Philly or Carson City. 154 is the only CC reed count. Philly could be either 144, 145, 154 or 156; San Francisco is only 147 or 148.

Of course, yours will have 154.

You're a better man than me if you can count reeding right the first time. I'm all like, "forty-six, forty-seven, forty-O Look! A shiny object!"

It is the first coin I have tried counting reeding but I counted it many times befor I was sure. The edge had many dings an scratches which helped my to keep track of where I was up to.

C'mon y'all! That's obviously an 'O' mintmark.

That is one really beat up coin!

Sorry but it hurts my eyes to try to count that tiny worn down reeding.

You can actually take the coin out of its misery. Have a funeral for it. Sing "Precious Memories" and "Amazing Grace". Then toss it in the melting pot.

I disagree with the above sentiment, anyway - it's never the right time to take a piece of history over a century old and destroy it forever. Whatever happened to it is likely the same age, and raises interest on that alone. Somebody has to preserve it - might as well be you.
