For the items that I looked at, he doesn't permit asking a question, so you've done better than me already !

His business model has most of his items achieving excellent prices. From what I've seen over the past year or so, he consistently gets a higher percentage of trend value (based on the accurate grade of the coin, not his "grade") than most other sellers on ebay. He has to have a huge volume of people watching his auctions daily. I've gotten the odd deal, but really nothing compared to the deals that were to be had when he first started up on ebay.

with pocket change chequer....He gets a good price for everything,,,I agree also he must hav a lot of buyers always bidding....I wonder why people are so stupid to pay high for mint silver products (Ex. 20 for 20,,,gets at least 22.50 or even 30.oo).. Why do people not want a good deal......I only get a good deal just every now and again....So I guess that means I am adding to the problem.....

"I agree also he must have a lot of buyers always bidding..." I think you must be on to something, persistnt. I had a buddy of mine who could always sell his items on ebay for 2 or 3 times what anyone else selling the exact same thing was getting. I used to look at his auctions and compare them with those others -- condition was the same, photos about on par, etc, there was no difference that I could see. Eventually he was selling so much at such high prices that he was able to quit his day job and go into the ebay thing full time. But he had regular customers who just kept coming back to him, they wouldn't buy from anyone else. And I think that that was part of his success. It seems our friend Asyn has got the same good fortune, possibly for the same reason. I think all ebay sellers wish they were in the same boat.

So when I had one issue I actually got a phone number and called them.. (since then I've tried getting the phone number and can't find it)
But from my conversation this is what I have surmised. It's pretty much a mail order business run by approximately 12 individuals for the whole outfit.
When I sent my coin back to them I didn't use tracking mail... a stipulation for pay pal to refund your money in the event that someone receives and return but doesn't refund the money. Anyways we talked about losses and customers that say they never received their items they purchased and the individual told me they take a pretty large sum as losses on a monthly basis.
That's about all I know of the operation.. a better question is where the heck to they get their supply?
Is anyone here a dealer? I know for autos they have dealer only auto auctions.. I almost suspect that coin dealers have something similar and ASYN picks up a lot of the low end merchandise for discount prices.. couple that with getting book value or better and you could support a business including free shipping if you do a large amount of volume.

Most of us have contacts at banks that we can get a few good things saved for us but this seller has to have some sort of agreement with one of the big security companies. To get this kind of volume you'd need to be able to get your hands on bills and coins that have been screened out of the process for 'mutilation' or the Mint's ARP. At that level, effectively anything that the banks receive from customer's and send away could become ASYN's supply.

It would be interesting to know how they get their supply that's for sure... but regardless I think they certainly do have a good business model.

I don't know about his "older" stuff but I needed to update my collection after a few years lapse and he has been a good source for the "W"s,"WP"s, quarters that were not in circulation, and so on. Grading on those not too far off and many for sale each week so easy to wait for a decent price.
I did buy a couple of silver dollars. I just bid assuming the grade was really a couple of notches lower than advertised and I was happy with the quality for what I paid.
Not sure I would chance bidding on $100 items unless they were ICCS graded.

I stopped buying from them a while back, unless I grade the coin myself before and get it for dirt cheap. They are located not far from me, but there is no store you can visit. He only sells through mail (from what I know). But I do wonder as well how he gets all this stock, how he puts these ads up everyday and manages it all. Must be quite a few people working there

I haven't looked at his listings lately, but I did today and immediately noticed his offerings are way down. He used to always have 1500 items, now it's less than 600. Maybe it's just because he has gone more specialized with his product, offering paper and foreign coins on other sites. But I have dealt with him in the past and will probably do so again - whenever I have had a problem it was resolved promptly and without argument. And there's always that free shipping...

Out of curiosity I bought several raw coins from Asyn, ranging from low-value to higher-value. The condition of ALL coins received did not come close to their exaggerated grades as advertised. This was conducted a while ago when they were still posting a numbered grade in their description. None of the MS-63 coins were MS at all, some of the MS-64 coins were actually AU at best and cleaned, and only a couple of the highest graded coins were MS but just average. Money was refunded without hesitation only after I opened a case. I can't comment on their non-raw coins, but you've been warned!
