Transformers can also be sold under the small electric motor category (or at least my scrap dealer does it). It sure beats messing around with stuff. Plus, it pays better...at least where I am.

I just sell copper to a local scrap yard. Right now, I am selling my boards on ebay, but I may try a website soon. I haven't tried selling the transformers as motors, but I'll probably look into that.

Where do you guys get your electronic scrap from? Also, what do you do with the glass from a flat screen tv?

I get my scrap from friends, and mainly family, when they send out the newest laser system they received the old laser system back, and they give it to me.
I take it to my ewaste collection depot with my tv tubes.

I figured that on the screen. Has anyone tried a huge buy? In the US there is a site called government liquidations that sells huge lots. There are also others. The only problem is you have to pick them up, and it is a long ways away.

Well, I checked with my local recycling center the other day, and they don't accept the number 6 plastic. Oh well, into the landfill it went.

Has anyone ever done an old car radio? I have one out of a 1965 chevy truck, that is not original, but I would still say it is from the 70s or 80s. It appears to be full of goodies. Has anyone else ever done one of these?

I know, I watched Mike the Scrapper dismantle a modern one and he suggested that you just throw it in with your tin. However, I was shocked to see the inside of this one. I'll try to get some pictures up.

One thing I was seeing was the reason for gold and silver and other precious metals being used in computers was that it will not corrode easily. Data loss was the main reason for the precious metals, so I'd have to wonder about a truck radio from a time when a single computer needed 3 trucks to move it, how much the manufacturer spent on signal loss, pre-computerized so no data to lose. Build it to break and replace it cheap. Still without pictures no clue.

It really isn't the gold in it. I don't know if it has any or not. I noticed a lot of capacitors just on the edge. I'll try to get pictures.

Could the radio have mercury switches? How can you tell?
