Quote: Very neat, but going off the images...does anyone else think the color looks off to be silver? The medal looks the way it is supposed to look. The "Antique" finish seen on the medal was part of the medal's minting process. After the silver medal was fully struck, it was covered with a solution that creates a darkened surface. The high points of the medal are then buffed. The contrast between the buffed high points and darkened low points enhances the relief/depth of these types of medals - it's a characteristic that many collectors enjoy.

Very nice looking medal ... I say we all pitch in and purchase it for jbuck. Quote: I own one of these medals Why does that not surprise me ... or likely anyone else. Thanks for your insights on the manufacturing of these commems ... I was wondering the same about the surfaces until I read your reply. David

Quote: I probably should have kept it secret lol. It is 4 1/2 ounces of silver so it will go past a hundred bucks easily. Done. Current bid: US $100.90

I doubt it. There is a good chance this one will get out of (my) reach by the time it ends.

I was going to bid on it, but I gotta let jbuck take the shot. Hope you win it, man.

I really like that. I wont jump in on it and let jbuck have a run at it. As you said though it is likely going out of my reach. But here's to you snagging it. :)

Actually if you have this on your watch list - you can check out the view similar items list and see the company made a lot of cool medals. The other Eisenhower General/President medal is kind of cool...until you see the nasty grin they gave him on the President side!

I am out... for now. Bidding exceeded my current limit. If it is not too far out of reach by Thursday evening, I might try to make a last second bid and see where it lands. Regardless, there is a coin show in February and there is a dealer who has a lot of stuff like this. Maybe I will get lucky then.

That's a neat item 52Raymo and it went for $179.50 . . . funny thing is something like this can go sky high in some local auction with other collectibles especially if there are silver dollars present pre 1921.
