This warrants a polite note to the seller, objectively listing the reasons for the belief, and a link to this thread. I agree, the date is very problematic.

well, all one has to do is look at the last feather on the Indian's headdress, type one would point between the I and C of AMERICA.

Clearly this coin's (1872)last feather points between the C and A, which is type2 and only seen from 1887 to 1909. the exception being the 1886 which has type1 and type 2.

the coin is not legit.

Edit,
I sent a note to the seller with the info (T1 vs T2)so hopefully he saves himself a big problem.

RK55 nailed it. Appears someone has changed the date on an actual coin that was minted much later than 1872.

Why even consider spending that much money on a coin that hasn't been authenticated?

Counterfeit IHCs are very common and have been for years. It's a shame.

RK55 completely nailed it:

Good to hear that the seller was appreciative instead of defensive. Certainly the minority of folks would respond that way, and this is hallmark for a quality seller. Also glad we saved a buyer several hundred dollars. Thanks RK55 and all who responded.

Vanbroj...thanks for the comment. I am still very sick, but the forums are an enjoyable distraction.

But.. you can't fool the experts on CCF.
