Thanks for the link to the table tfred, does help a lot :)
Agreed nybird, Dr. Haxby defitely did an amazingly thorough work on 1859, think about how much fun and enjoyment will be left out had he not dug this deep into this gold mine of varieties and die pairing of 1859 large cents...

My wife thinks I'm insane because I saw this post and went to the Vicky website and spend 2 hours on it last night. I have 3 1859 cents that I had previously checked for over-dates and doubled 9's, which they didn't have but had no idea about the other variations.
Initially all look identical, but in 5 minutes it was clear all were different. One has no top to the T in GRATIA and the N in REGINA is missing it's top right. All of the leaf #7 loops are different, #9 leaf stems differ, etc...
I'll post my coins later this week with what I think are their varieties.

Yes. He was intending to publish the information found on the vickycents site in serial form but he found the website idea easier to work with and make corrections to as new information emerged. Unlimited clear color photos also had a lot of appeal.

You're not kidding. It was originally my plan to publish my catalog in book (paper) form, but a quick calculation suggested it would be so big it would have to sell for $300 a copy. At that price it would have ended up in the libraries of perhaps six people. So, the logical solution was to put it on line for free. In that way anyone who can get on line can use it and I can make revisions as needed without publishing later editions and charging collectors even more money....

Thanks for your amazing work Jim.
I've spent hours there and can only guess at the thousands of hours that you must have spent trying to get them all in some type of useful order.
It must have been a daunting task,... but greatly appreciated by the 59'ers...

Indeed, a LOT of work has gone into just the site, without even trying to calculate the years of actual research. I wish more people thought like you - it's definitely a great gift for the numismatic community. Thank you And welcome to CCF, too!

Thanks so much for the welcome and the kind words. I should also take this opportunity to recognize Ed's (nybird) untiring work as my webmaster, assistant and general alter ego. Without him I doubt my on line catalog would exist! Ed has also discovered some new dies and new die combinations that were unknown to me.

Not sure how to do anything else. Just building the website has been challaging enough. Thankfully it works pretty well on a smartphone. There are still hundreds of photos and charts to finish. There is also two unpublished die pairs to be uploaded once my cold is gone. It is nice to be able to doublecheck a die pair at a coin show or store on the phone. The upcoming site for later date Vickycents will have similar design with some updated features. Stay tuned... ed

Webmastering is hard work. Quote: CCF needs to give you and all concerned an award for the website! IMHO While I'm sure we'd be glad to be in that kind of position, I think the main audience is us individual collectors This site itself has had a ton of blood, sweat and tears poured into it.. and many of us (the members) are webmasters in our own right. I've got one I'm working on myself (see my sig). And I probably speak for many (but of course, not all) when I say we don't do it for awards, but to get knowledge out to our fellow collectors. So as a webmaster (err.. webmistress? webmaster-ette?) myself, I recognize how much work that is. Excellent job, nybird (and I hope you feel better soon )
