It may be worth resubmitting to one of the big three. While we all say "buy the coin, not the slab," I'd speculate that it is difficult to get MS 62 money for a coin in an MS 61 slab, even if the coin deserves a grade of MS63!

Good Luck!

Before you re-submit to a grading service, and pay there fee, take it to your local coin dealer and let them take a look. Make sure the dealer has been around for at least 10 yrs or so to insure they are a reputable source.

The dealer I bought it from sold it to me for 61 a long time ago and I bought it then because I had thought it was better than that. Do you think it would be wise to bring it back to the same one? I'm not really sure about it.

BTW, how much is the fee? If it's 25 bucks or so, I can handle it.

Might want to send it to NGC. Probably better chance than PCGS. What year?

It's a 1900. I have pictures now and I'm busy uploading them to a site so I can link. Or, is there any way to upload them to the server here?

Reference this, and follow the directions exactly, and your images will display with your post. Couple of pointers:

1. Make sure they are jpeg
2. Keep the pixel size around 500x500
3. Make sure there are NO spaces or parentheses in the filename

Judging from the pics, I would say it would be a lock at 63 (or AU58) at any TPG.

the old PCI green holders are usually great upgrade candidates because back then PCI was very strict with their grading and some collectors search for the green holder just for that reason. If you aren't interested in selling the coin I think it is fine where it is at, it is protected from the elements and everything and just because PCI called it a 61 doesn't mean there isn't a 63 coin in the holder, so unless it was going to be going on the market anytime soon I would just leave it where it is and the only reason I would resubmit it to PCGS is if I was selling it and the only reason is because PCGS seems to sell for more on the market but as long as I was going to be keeping the coin I would be just as happy with it in the PCI holder as I would be in a PCGS holder

Why does it have to be re-graded?

Would the price be significantly different without the certificate?

Couldn't you just auction it off somewhere and get a lot for it?

The price for ms63 is about three times the price for ms61.

I plan to sell it because the coin itself has not gained too much value and I plan to instead put my money into rarer dates rather than common, as the rare dates I actually DID buy gained quite a bit of value over the past five years.

And it's unlikely that anyone would pay 63 prices if it were slabbed as 61.

I'm definitely thinking about selling it, is there some kind of secure way to do it on this site? I use paypal, of course.
