The upgrade didn't give me much more detail, but the surfaces and luster are much better imho

The 1835 is very nice, indeed.

I recently owned one that was quite obviously recolored to hide some old corrosion. Sadly, it was a high AU otherwise. I just traded it to a dealer this past weekend.

1835: I'd go AU-55 although there's a chance this one got to AU-58.

1834: I will say AU-50 although a little on the fence between that and AU-53.

They both look great for their advanced age!

I think the 1835 is knwon for a weak strike, the break in the "L" in Liberty is a known die variety in this coin. Many of these have die cracks and clashed, but I don't see any in your coin.

Congratsu Fayette1800, you got it right. AU-58! I would have graded the old one probably a 45, if it had more luster it would make a 50. thanks for all of your guesses!

Thanks for the input. I just sold the old one for $100 on ebay, and advertised it as an XF/AU. I guess I am a bit surprised at all the ones grading it AU, as I tend to grade my coins a bit higher than the average forum opinion...lol.
