You know what's odd? There are nine MS-69 Morgans, and none of them are in this set. I bet the 1893-S cost more than any of those 9 except the Jack Lee 1896-S.

It could actually be more than the 96 S too, The Jack Lee 96 S got 400k in 2005 and an NGC 93 S 67 got 546k in 2011. Price guide wise anyway PCGS believes the 93 S 67 to be more valuable than the 96 S 69 by almost double. The 93 O or 98 O are probably my favorites though

I posted that from lunch at work. Got me to thinking to myself, "Hmmm. Which of those two would I pay more for?" I bluescreened. Divide by Zero (contents of my wallet) error.

Good stinkin' grief. Anyone want to take a guess as to what this collection cost? Several million? I would think so.

Collections like this are an inspiration. No, you and I won't ever put something like this together, but even for someone whose income puts them in that bracket it represents a huge commitment. And note the stories surrounding such collections when they come to market - in every case, the person responsible is described as just as committed a numismatist as the most enthusiastic among us. You don't see investors creating collections like this - just straight-up coin geeks who happen to have a lot of disposable income. They're doing it for the love of the coins, too.

Without doing any math I'd guess this set could have cost $10,000,000 or more. I still can't get over the 1893-O in MS66PL. It's absolutely the most beautiful Morgan I've ever seen.

I bluescreened. Divide by Zero (contents of my wallet) error. Lol I love it. I usually just ask myself "Which of these would I spend someone elses money on?" Quote: Without doing any math I'd guess this set could have cost $10,000,000 or more. Id be willing to bet definitely over 10 million. Theres at least 1 coin thats probably a million on its own. Theres several others that are top pops and the only one in that grade which you can probably go ahead and throw price guides out the window for.

I will take all of yours words for it. I am not going to make myself cry looking at these coins. The thumbnails alone made me weep.

IIRC, the owner of this set basically gave Laura (of Legend Numismatics) a budget and told her to go put it together. This is the result. A fine collection, no doubt, but not worthy of the respect nor praise of some of the other Morgan collections simply due to the fact that the owner took the "throw money at it until it's nice" route rather than doing most of the legwork himself.
