As Coop said, the coin was struck through a late-stage die cap.

It's been my experience that these struck through late-stage die caps like this one generally get better prices than early-stage examples.

is the rim intact or damaged? If it was struck through a die cap, then the rim should be intact, right?

I took out my older cheaper camera that seems to do better with this stuff (or maybe I just know it better). The color is a little off in one of these but the detail is better than last nights pics.

The reverse just looks to me like a rather well warn nickel.

There seems to be a hint of a rim in places and a faint 1972 which didn't really come through in the pictures.

Do you mint if I add your images to my image library? Something I don't have yet that look like that.

Coop: Feel free I wish the pic had come out a little better but my equipment is pretty basic.

Everyone: Thanks for all the info! I'm not sure if I'll hold onto it or try to sell to put towards something I'm more interested in. Any advice if I want to trade or sell it?

Thanks again

Awesome find there! I have one that looks almost this bad, but is obverse and reverse... probably not likely to be late stage double capped die ha... probably heated up as mentioned previously about your awesome 5c. Congrats!!

Thanks, but I've edited probably 50,000 in that few years. So it is something I love doing.

It is a mint error. Not a PSD/PMD coin.
