I used to have each series on a 3X5 index card with needed dates listed. Now I've repurposed my old Palm 125 and have everything listed there...editing is much cleaner now  |

I just found my old Check List and Record book of US and Canadian Coins with complete mint records of all regular issues, commemorative issues including gold.
Printed by Whitman Publishing Co in 1965

I think someone could reprint and sell a lot of those.
It a space behind each date and m/m from good to proof to mark your coin.
I wish I still had the coins that I had marked. My XF 37D 3 legged plus lots of others

I use MS Access for this sort of stuff, but pen and paper will do. There is something satisfying about crossing an item off a list.

I foubd the US Coin app a little bit ago and I have to say that its pretty awesome. Logged all my coins into it so now I just have to open up the app and I am good to go. Thanks for the help guys!

Whitman still publishes this book. My copy is from 2008. On Amazon they show the newest edition as being printed in 2012. I can't bring myself to write in it. -MV |

I have them memorized, my collection is pretty small and simple and I've only got 20ish coins I need still for my current set. before that I would make a little dot in front of the year and mintmark in my price book when I get a coin.(i don't need to do it anymore but I like putting the dots in there so I still do). if I had more needed and had to go somewhere where taking the book isn't practical I'd just write it out on a sheet of notebook paper. low tech, but the battery never needs to be charged at least.:p

As someone who is a new collector, I tend to use MS Access more than anything else. I tried pen and paper once but that didn't work out because I kept on adding varieties and types.
If you are very familiar with what you are going to put in your album, pen and paper will certainly suffice.
In the long run, I think that MS Access or Excel should be used as the general tools of documenting purchases.

I'm using notepad. I save it to my desktop and edit as I buy them. (The computer program)
Never bought an extra one.
But when I'm buying from my dealers, I use a notebook.

I use a 2 1/2" x 4" Moleskin book and pencil. It's handy and small enough to fit in my pocket and its batteries never die. When you find the system that's right for you let us know. Good luck.  |

Excel sheet. You can open it on your phone also. I just downloaded that BJG App for Wheats and it seems very good. You can pick your coin and lock the list so you don't accidentally click a coin. Its basic but probably effective.

I could only wish to be as organized as most.....my method involves a small notebook with lots of gibberish scribbled in it.
