Me? I'd grade it F-15. BUT, I think the ICG gave it a rarity bounce and gave it a VF-20.

Either way,

An Amazing full date key SLQ!!

Yes, I do agree its overgraded detail wise, and took that into account in the trade. If you look through Heritage archives, this coin is on par with most in the VF-30 range. It is pretty common for low VF examples of this date to not have the complete date or inner shield well details that this one has. However, it's no XF....I don't know what ICG was thinking when they graded this.

I've seen PCGS and NGC do the same thing. End of the day, not feeling well?

The more I drink, the better my coins look.

Might work the same way in the grading room too (?).

Unfortunately, the date only just manages to make a full appearance with this one.
Strictly in this area alone, it would not even make G-4.
The WHOLE coin has to be graded nevertheless.

ICG got it wrong. (What WERE they thinking?)
Most of the guys here in the CCF got it right at F-15.

This coin brings an important point to the fore:
It is essential that we must all learn to grade accurately for ourselves. You are your own best ally in this regard when you come to a valuable purchase. If you are unsure for yourself, go to only the the most respected TPG's.

'23s' are tough to acquire in ANY grade, and so grading becomes critical when it comes to value. There is a factor of x5 or thereabouts between F and EF with these.

I hope not too many tears were shed in the acquisition of this one.
