VF20 with a full date and firm rims reverse leaving plenty of fields between letters and rim.

As much as I love it I'm going to have to say at VG10, But aren't the dates pretty much gone at VG with the type 1's? Great eye appeal and F12 or 15 wouldn't surprise me at all.

Thank you for all of your opinions!! I am glad there are more folks out there that like the crustiness. Here she is in the slab. There was a wide range of grades on this one, and many of you got it correct. I have noticed quite a few of you are quite tough on SLQs, which is a good thing.....it might give me some great buying opportunities in the future. Though low grade SLQs are my forte(I have owned 7 examples VG and lower in the past), mid grade examples I am not as experienced with.....which led me to do a LOT of research before purchasing this coin. My humble(yet biased) opinion is that this example is at the top 10-20% of the grade range. VG anything isn't in the ballpark. My pics are probably inadequate, but the date on this one is FULL up to the very top. I looked at the closeups of every previously graded F-12 and F-15 example in the Heritage archives before making this purchase(at least 30 to 40 examples). NOT ONE of these examples had a full date. Some of the F-15s were close, but just missing the top 5-10% or so. This linked Heritage example was the closest, with the tippy top 2% or so missing, and it sold for a strong premium too : http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleN...6&lotNo=1307Many VF examples don't have a full date either. As NLP coins stated, the rims and lettering, reverse details and date on this coin are all in the VF range. I think the limiting factor on my is some of the central drapery, clothing and shield details are too weak to make VF, which held the coin to F-15. Might be some strike weakness.

I was guessing fine, because of the lack of shield detail. I would imagine the shield detail is allowed to be weaker than the type 2 with covered breast?

Quote: I was guessing fine, because of the lack of shield detail. I would imagine the shield detail is allowed to be weaker than the type 2 with covered breast? Yeah, I think the central shield and drapery details are the weak link to this coin....and what is keeping it from a VF grade.
