I like these kinds of projects. Look forward to seeing more pics. I've been tying to do the same thing with my world coins but I can't get the lighting right.

it can be found at any hardware or craft store. the only draw back is it does tend to cast shadow lines that are really visible on proof coins. for my next project I will find something more opaque (like wax paper or white plexiglass)

here's a few more favorites

Those are spectacular pictures! Curious...did you make a light box out of the diffusers? and how do you get the black back ground? Would love to catalog my collection with photos like these!

Outstanding! and I totally need to know how to do this!

yes I made a light box out of the chloroplast,

I used a piece of black felt for the background, and raised the coin about 1/2" above the felt with a small cork. it causes the coin to stay in focus and the background to "wash out" - which makes it easier to fill in the background with solid black when post processing.

Excellent photos! Amazing that these are all done from an IPhone. Do you use a tripod or a mount to keep the phone steady?

I honestly use an elastic band to hold the phone to a small cardboard box about 4" above the coin (allowing the phone to "reach in" to the lightbox).

I use the volume control on the factory earphones to act as a shutter release. VERY amateur but considering the results I'm ok using the "welfare" setup !

recently upgraded a few:

Try a piece of plain white copy paper or a white sock to diffuse the light.

They are cheap, readily available, and effective.

Excellent advice which very many iPhone users have no clue about. It totally eliminates the deleterious effects of the jitters...

I don't wish to hijack this thread but since an iPhone shot these photos with the help of a battery, try turning on with iOS 9 installed the 'Low Power Mode' feature in 'Settings' to significantly extend the life of an iPhone's battery: 'Settings' to 'Battery' to 'Low Power Mode'.

The effects/details of this action are written out under the 'Low Power Mode' off/on switch.
