Could be wrong but the first coin could be Julian II, he had a couple of coins with a bull reverse. The second is a lovely Caraucius, be careful with that one. The third looks like Victorinus to me, the reverse is a bit of a puzzle.
Leave them in soak until you have had a bit of practice on the others.

Third pic, last coin, that is a nice Claudius II Gothicus with eagle reverse.

Hi Pish,
I am under the impression that coin 1 is Carausius Legionary issue - Leg VII, to be precise (I made that look like I IDed it :) but I didn't, The one I want to nickname 'professor Ben' ID'd it:)
The rest I agree with bar the third coin reverse, believed to be an error coin, which I think is quite interesting, I thought at first it was double bust struck, but now seeing the bigger pics, I agree that it appears struck through... with no reverse struck? I assume this kind of coin may have been 'chucked' by romans after the first strike? Its definitely a keeper for me, maybe not worth anything, but its a interesting error coin in my eyes

Something has occured to me...those are all remarkably similar in colour. Looks like the detectorist found a hoard, and with a legionary Carausius in it, thats something Archeologists like to know of. Perhaps more top grade Carausii are lying in wait.
Also, that last coin I'm not so sure of - the obverse looks like Carausius., while the reverse certainyl does appear to be an eagle. Perhaps I'm looking at it upside down and back to front. who knows. Any possibility of another picture of it, maybe slightly wetted, might bring out some more detail? No eagles are recorded for Carausius, so its likely not, but still, worth a look (Carausius initially issued coins based on coins already in circulation and these would have been common in change).

Incredible for that price, I pay around 2 quid a coin for lots like that.

PP, I only replied to a post the other day saying there are no really reliable places for uncleaned stuff (well nearly all coins are cleaned to a certain extent when found) so it looks like I got that one wrong. If it was from ebay then I certainly blinked for a long time! very good lot.

Curious... it is certainly Carausius, but one way up looks like an eagle and the other astanding figure. Its not pax, so you're lucky there. Clean it carefully and the typ eshould be identifiable.
