Here's another one I suspect is fake. Die crack isn't there and VDB looks to be present on his shoulder. Shouldn't be there.

Definitely looks fake to me. That date and mint mark look horrible.

both are fake. The date and mintmark are too bold on the first one and everything looks wrong on the second one.

Yeah...they didn't even get the shape/spacing between the date digits right--stay away!

Actually the second one is a bit impressive. It's a modified 44, but unlike most, they didn't just trim the 4 into a 1. They actually moved it to the left. Spacing is still wrong, but at least it isn't as obvious.

I'd buy that first one. If the cost was cheap enough, would make for a great coin for laughs. Never seen a fake that bad. It is almost like having a 57 Chevy without fins. It sort of has that smashed by a hammer look. Really great fake when they are so bad.

Can someone post a picture of the diagnostic die crack on an authentic coin?

Both 14-D's pictures do not survive the gong show. On the first one the date and the mintmark are entirely two bold which makes it an obvious fake. Another to gong an obviously fake 14-D is (per The Complete Guide to Lincoln Cents by David W. Lange)that Denver used the same style of mintmark and all the cents they minted from 1911-1917 so you can look at a D mint from one of the surrounding years and if the style doesn't match run away. The second 14-D pictured looks like one of some of that fake Chinese crap again.

upstate, here's a link to a genuine 14-D for sale. The die crack is at the 5 o'clock position from the coat to the rim. It's not the end all of diagnostics but I'd feel better if it was there if I'm buying uncertified. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1914-D-LINC...em43c8b7c596
