When you have a coin that is in really bad shape burned etc.... It will look like all kinds of weird stuff on it but its just our imagination getting a little wild. We all have them moments in hoping to find something new. All I can say is study http://www.maddieclashes.com it is a very educational site on die clashes, mad die clashes, and counter clashes.

Coins101 Yes I can hear what you are saying and I do have an imagination LOL! What I was trying say on top of the Ghosting was that there are physical design irregularities, Writing/Notes on some, The engravers initials, Large Numbers where they are not supposed to be, and other things that are sometimes hard for me to show. I'll try to give some examples later today or tomorrow to add on to the Ghosting. I am by no means an expert so I take no offense to anything anyone voices here. Honestly, I appreciate it. Oh I really like the maddieclashes website by the way! I know that not all of these pics may fall in the lines of clashing per se but hopefully it can entertain and perhaps educate. The coins of WWI and WWII I find to be bizarre at times...in a good way :-)

OK so here is an example of what I am hoping to get across. Again, I am not trying to say what is fact or fiction I'm just providing some pictures. Look at this Amazing coin. All of it and you can make up your mind on what it is or isn't. Enjoy :-)

I was going to add, do you see any unusual writing? Perhaps a few places on jacket and under Bust? I believe it is a copper plated experimental cent. As far as I know, the only one I've heard of for 1944. Metallurgical testing will be done.

Hflirn, sorry maybe just me, but finding it difficult to keep up with this post topic, which started with possible modern day die clashes ending now with experimental coin in question. Thus far I count 7-10 coins in between. I wish I could answer all, but if I had pertinent information for any in betwwen, I wouldn't know where to start.
I could be wrong, but the last coin in question shouldn't be plated or experimental that I'm aware. Not seeing any writing at this time. Just looks similar to a 1944 copper cent made from a spent WW2 brass shell casings. I'm a rookie still, so maybe wrong. Thanks, Doug.

You have a point Halo but at the time when I started this topic I considered the idea of these coins being struck against another patterned object. Yes, it is not your typical clash where you would see the opposite field show through the other but to be honest I couldn't come up with a better error definition and thought that Clash enthusiasts would let it slide for either humor or intrigue. I thought I stated my intentions for this topic first thing. Anyhow, If you have any interest in experimentals for the WWII era you can find out that there are indeed quite a few different combinations of metals and even non metals for proposed coinage. I won't say you are wrong or right about this Lincoln Cent because I don't work for a Grading and Authentication Service. However, thanks to Roger Burdette who has detailed listings and information on some of these coins...as well as the Engravers notes of dates and the company issued to make this coin written on the Rim and Edge, I'm not going to sweat too much over it. Sorry if you found the topic deceptive.

Hflirn, I apologize if I sounded like a critic. Had a long day and been trying to keep track of many things. Posts like this keep me thinking, sometimes to much.
I enjoy seeing and learning from all here. Thanks, Doug.

No worries Doug I am equally guilty of having these moments. Ask practically anyone on this Forum lol! Feel free to ask any question and if I can't answer it, don't tell anyone and I'll help find someone who can haha! Have a nice beverage and enjoy your weekend.

I'm a bit confused by this thread, also. I'm not seeing any lettering or clashing on any of the coins, but the pictures aren't the best. Maybe if you can circle or put an arrow indicating what you think you see it will make it easier for others to see it?

Another good point. I'll have to check with admin before reposting a bunch of stuff but hopefully I can share this for now. My brother is in dentistry and I remember hearing something about using x-rays for authenticating coins so I had a scan of some sort done on the 1914 Half Penny on this thread. I assume a coin would come out with the die design and any abnormalities would show up better through the scan. Now I don't mind saying focus on this area or that, again, I believe there are abnormalities in design on these coins. However, if I say look at the purple unicorn on whatever dignitaries head, everyone will pack up shop and give me a number to a psychiatrist or something. Here is a scan of the 1914 Half Penny

Any idea what type of scan that is?
Still not seeing what you're trying to point out on the coin, though. Maybe give a hint?

Forgive me for saying this but you are confusing everybody. Now to end this thread there is nothing interesting going on with any of the coins. They all just suffered some kind of Post Mint Damage. You are looking to hard to find stuff out of the ordinary. So all in all just drop it nothing special here.

Well if you see this as more harm than good then I will stop the thread. I obviously don't have the means right now to portray what I'm trying to get across.
