Idk - ms62? I could see a low end 63 though. It's a nice piece regardless.

Nice crumbling rim! I like this one, really a nice example of an early IHC. Too bad the obverse is not as free from marks as the reverse is. Since it's a copper - nickel there is no color designation given. I'll guess it sits in a PCGS MS62 holder - though this could possibly go AU, the magnified photo on your PhotoBucket space, really shows off the dings on the cheek, ouch! Coins never look great that close up, LOL. Like grading using a 15-20 power loupe, every little tick becomes a canyon.

Here is how close I see it at full view, crop of the cheek area at 100%:

My first impression was 63 and I'll stick with that. 62 sounds too tough because the strike and luster look pretty good. 64 sounds a bit generous given the obverse contact marks and lack of full detail on the tips of the headdress feathers.

Overall it is a very nice coin and I would like it as a MS63.

My brain said 63 as soon as I saw it but Westcoin points out those slight flaws on the obverse relief so did that drop it to a 61? Hmmmmm....

Leave it to Chriss and his unwavering eye.

With my aging eyes, perhaps I need to take a "closer" look at my other coins...nah, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

John, nothing at all wrong with this IHC - as I said I really like it!

Back when you posted that gorgeous 1884 Liberty nickel - I wanted to show just how large the photo can be enlarged at 100% viewing through direct links to Photobucket site. It's around 4 times what we see on CCF. That's how I noticed the strike through wire around the forehead. Any nicks at this size can be misleading - so gotta be careful when grading from the large photos.

No worries Chriss, we are not the only ones who thought that is a nice coin; Rick Snow liked it as well:

I missed ("...it by that much") the mailman this morning by a matter of minutes it appears from the notice that was in the postbox.

I was off a point - but you can be sure if Rick likes it enough to slap a photo seal on it then it's a keeper!

I should have been a little more expanding on "we"...as in the CCF.
