Very nice! Either VF-35 or XF-40. Good eye appeal.

An exceptional appearance might get this one an XF40 grade. Technically maybe a 35, your coin has the eye appeal for a bump to XF. In case you don't know this is a Type 1 (large) Capped Bust quarter and appears to be a small "0" variety. Scarce in higher circulated grades with only 6 pieces known in Mint State, you have a valuable coin worth in the neighborhood of $1200 to $1500 retail.

There are 2 "Small 0" die marriages for the 1820 quarters, the B-4 and the B-5. The B-5 is a very rare die marriage currently rating R-5 on the Sheldon rarity scale (31-75 pieces known) while the B-4 rates an R-2 (501-1250 pieces known). Your piece is, in my opinion, a B-4, R-2, Tompkins die state 2/2. Rea, Koenings, and Haroutunian record 9 or so examples in MS and 1 "so-called proof".
At a grade of VF-35 to XF-40, I believe BH1964's estimate of $1200 to $1500 is certainly not unreasonable. In fact, DORC currently has an XF-40 B-4 for sale at $1550.

Wow, nice family coin. I'd grade it at XF-40.

Very nice! 1815-1828 Capped Bust quarters in this condition are scarce and besides that very appealing. Grade wise: EF 45

I've collected these for years and have only one borderline EF example. I'm in at 40-45. Great piece! As others have said, please don't clean this coin in any way. She is a beauty!

Here it is again ANACS graded. I'm very pleased with how it turned out and with the service.

Congrats. Something I would do is write down the history of how it came into the family or what all you know about the piece. I regret not doing that with a few coins I inherited and now they are mixed in with the others in my collection. -MV
