PMO are being accepted less & less. They are being counterfeited, with
security band & watermark, well enough to fool me. My grand-daughter received 2 for
900. each in a secret shopper scheme. These are very well put together.
There is a web site w/known #s, but her's were not on it. I was using MO exclusively, now I dont. I now buy a pre-paid mastercard, where the seller can verify the amount on it, when activated. Downside= cost $5. Most members selling here accept cash,
& I've never had a prob.

edit: this was re. U.S. postal money orders, just saw the Can. post

They're easy to buy, just go down to your local PO. They are an expensive way to pay, about $7 each, and some US sellers don't want them.

there used to be such a thing as an "I.M.O." International Money Order.
These were sold by post offices around the world, and were redeemable for cash in other countries -
I don't know if that was some/many/all other countries.
I gather that in some countries, the P.O. charged a commission on redemption, so it was very expensive.
I don't know if the IMO still exists, nor if its fee structure has been revised ...

Sorry for not explaining what I'm trying to do:
I'm trying to sell on CCF with my buyer paying via Postal Money Order. How likely is it for someone to accept such payment method?
Thanks for all comments regarding how it works. So I go to a post office, buy it, and then how do I send it (as a buyer)/receive it (as a seller)?

I would accept it.Just state that you will ship the item when you have cashed the M.O. at your local Post Office.
Your buyer will have to buy the M.O. at his Post Office. He also pays the fees associated with the transaction. Say he owes you $75.00 he has to pay that plus say $3 fee.He gives $78 and he receives a M.O for $75.He writes your name on it.Only you can now cash it. You will need a piece of ID when you go to cash it.Instead of a personal check, you have a M.O.for which the Post Office has been paid in full.
therefore no problem to give you the money when you show up.
good luck

If a Canadian Money Order is going across into the U.S., how hard would it be to cash? And vice-versa?

Use a gift card and all parties are protected and its immediate, problem solved. Depending on the state I think it could take a long time to cash if even accepted.

Visa or Mastercard. Or a Paypal account only takes a day or 2 to set up with your bank. Personally I have used gift cards plenty of times with never a problem.

If the buyer and seller are in different cities I find better to send the money with Moneygram or Western Union, it' immediatly (virtually). With the Money Order you've to mail it.

Iike using Paypal friends & family. There's no fees for either party. It's good where ever Paypal is used. I've used it for private deals in Canada /US. Using this method there's no protection for either person. If you desire protection then the 2.9 % is charged to one person. So people use a type of email transfer, from their bank for a very low fee. I forget what it's called.

You can still track a money order. They give you the money order number and you can track it. Just more hoops to jump through
