I wish I could find more old checks with engraved vignettes, but they seem to have gotten more expensive and more elusive. Here's one I managed to pick up for a reasonable price.

Fans of U.S. Treasurer Francis Spinner usually know of his association with Mohawk Valley Bank as cashier. They might look at this check and think, "too bad it doesn't have a Spinner signature." But they'd be wrong. This check was issued to and endorsed by Peter B. Spinner, brother of Francis. Peter never gained national attention, probably because his autograph is not nearly as interesting.

A nice check for $10,000.00 in GOLD

I think I might try to cash it.

Has a RN-L10 revenue - slightly unusual -

Just before Christmas I obtained this lovely remainder check from the National Bank of Athens (GA). Pre-signed, but never issued. Very colorful and both vignettes are terrific. Happy to add this one to my collection!

That is certainly a fantastic example. Agree completely with the artwork on the vignettes. It is wonderful!

I found two nice checks at the FUN coin show in Orlando last month.

The first is actually a promissory note. The building in the upper left is the New York Merchants Exchange, built in 1841. It still exists on Wall Street, though it's been greatly modified.

The Sisson & Chapman check includes a portrait of singer Jenny Lind. She was quite famous in her day and was nicknamed the Swedish Nightengale.

This is Red Jacket a.k.a. Sa-Go-Ye-Wat-Ha, a Seneca chief and well known orator. His famous jacket was a gift from the British during the American Revolution.
