I was only thinking about flaws seen with the naked eye. If there are no flaws visible even under magnification, then I'm going out on a limb and calling it MS69. The color is awesome and I don't see any softly struck areas. If I'm overgrading, then so be it!

So is it a 67, 68 or 69?

Hey Catman, awesome coin!Congratulations! Is this a newly graded "Tops in Pops"? I could find no PCGS or NGC MS69'S in any 1909 Lincoln, see below...Mike

Catman prefers ANACS, so you wouldn't have found it in those pop reports.

Well that makes sense! I was not sure if the coin was slabbed or not. On all the auction archives I could find for the last eight years, no MS69 1909 Lincoln's have crossed the auction tables on any major auction. Mike.....Must be worth mega-bucks!!!!! I saw one MS68, some 67'S and tons of 66's.......

Let's face it...we are 4 years from 2009 and the mint plans to issue 4 differant Lincoln reverses in 2009 depicting the 4 stages of Abe's life. Hopefully, that will bring new collectors to the hobby...a yes, newbies will ber clamouring for all Lincolns! (at least, that is my take)

1909 Lincolns will be going for a premium in 2009. Also, finding a 1909-P in this condition is actually worth more than the 1909-VDB. I am not talking about the 09-s or 09-s-VDB, just the 1909 versus the 1909 VDB.

For instance, this coin has a real good shot at MS67 which goes for $1200 in Coin Values. A 1909-P in MS67 goes for $2500.

Either way, it is a great looking specimen and I would slab it with either PCGS or NGC. Once it is in a PCGS slab at MS67, it is almost like hard cash if you want to sell it.

Zakgold, Catman said in his earlier response that this coin grades out an MS69! I can't find any value info on a 1909 Lincoln of "any" type that grades out that high. Susan said he uses ANAC's. However, Catman never indicated that the coin was in a slab! Catman is this a "raw" coin? If it is not slabbed, will it be? This coin has me fascinated! Mike [:p]

I purchased it through an auction house for $1000.00. I had ANACS confirm the grade on the floor before I purchased it. However I have not submitted it to them for slabbing.

I purchased a Capital Plastic holder for Lincoln cents through 1958 and attempting to complete the collection in grades like this one. A slab won't fit in the hole.

Catman, thanks for posting the answers. You bought a stunning coin. I would love to see a set of that quality. It would be something to behold. ANAC'S is my favorite TPG as well. I think they are tough on grades and anything that passes them with a market grade is going to slab anywhere else with no problems. They are a nice bunch to chat with as well. If you get a coin back from them and have a question, they will talk to you directly! They also give you a break if you submit a bunch of coins. All you have to do is ask! I like their holders. They are compact and stack tightly. The best part of all is the price and no body bags! Congratulations on a stunning coin! What little detail kept it from that perfect 70? Mike [:p]
