Sounds to me that you are upset about coin DEALING, not coin collecting.

I learned a long time ago that it isn't the coins (or any other objects we collect) that upsets you, its some of the people you have to deal with.
Why not try a different aspect of coin collecting?

What kind of pawn owner doesn't know about silver and gold? Was she playing you from the start? Strange occurrence, I think pcunix has a good idea.

Don't let small people bring you down:
Romans 5:3-4: Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.

As a collector, I have to deal with dishonest people every time, but I agree with previous comments, don't let stupid people bring you down...

I agree with pcunix and zeil, Don't let these types of people bring you down. There are a lot of really good honest people on CCF, maybe that will give you some comfort. My suggestion is stick with it. I recently bought a 1796 French 5 Centimes and some Whitman Lincoln Cent books from a guy... he said the French coin was an error, and me not dealing with world coins very much took his word for it. I spent $30 on it. Turns out it's not an error coin and is only worth maybe $5 I'm not sure he did it to take advantage of me, I think he just didn't know what he was dealing with. the Whitman books had something spilled on it and when I removed the coins from the books 90% of them had verdigris. Very disappointing. Yeah I didn't spend much, but I really think if your going to sell, you should know your product as best you can. This discouraged me quite a bit too. But I took it as a lesson learned and now have more tools in my box when doing future deals which is a win in my opinion. You know in your heart you didn't steal those things, but it's still frustrating and disheartening when someone makes an accusation like that. You should go to sleep knowing YOU did nothing wrong and take pride in the way you carry yourself. People that have done things like that lady did have likely done them to others as well, and they can't get away with it forever. Don't let a couple bad apples spoil a wonderful hobby for you.

Im real sorry to hear that there are scumbag people out there. I think she got screwed on her silver originally and trying to get a fall guy to USE to make up for her STUPIDTY. Record your next run in with her and of course get the tape or copy so you have proof of the accusation. Then sue her for defamation of character. She deserves it and spread the word around about what she did and enough people hear about it she will lose her business

I assume English is not your first language, but it sounds like this pawn shop woman has a screw or two loose. What self respecting pawn shop owner doesn't know the value of gold and silver?
Did I understand correctly that you have a pawn loan with her for $600?

I saw your post yesterday and I just didn't know what to write -- except that I am sorry that this happened to you.
But now... a day later ... I'm wondering what happened to this pawn shop owner. To make up such a ridiculously outrageous story for no reason is confusing -- unless she has a drug/alcohol problem or is senile.
Anyway, I agree with the previous posts -- put the coins away for now. Enjoy your summer. Go rock hunting or take photos of birds and keep an eye on your change because you never know ....

I would just take a break for now. Then, when you come back it will be like a fresh start. It would be good to clear your mind of this encounter.

Thanks everyone for all the advice... I think she paid too much for the silver and wanted to make up some of it by accusing me of theft.. and wanting me to just give her money.. she never told me what was missing or how much I supposedly owe her...
I never let anything beat me and I think once I move from here I'll be able to goto my local coin shop again and finish my American silver eagle collection...
I am getting better at being able to look at coins without getting mad.. it's been a while but I do want to finish my #7070 and my SAE pcgs 69 set... I'll get back into it and when I do I'll definitely share it with all of you...
I made the post to get people's reactions about the situation. .. In this line of business honesty and integrity separate the good from the bad... my suggestion is to never buy from Hawaiian sellers or coin stores, your just gonna be disappointed and over pay.. thanks again and much mahalos to you all

It's a sad comment, that a pawn store owner would stoop so low! Accuse someone of stealing, and never tell them what it is they're suppose to of taken. It's very very sad, the mind games and manipulation some people use. The ruse to have you help sell, sounds to much like a set up. Especially when the person keeps putting you off, until they make accusations. Hopefully you'll find a better and more support group of people to share your interests with!! Hopefully in a short while your name will be cleared. I know it must be highly stressful, being blind sided like that. Please let us know how things turn out.

Well, I think I've learnt from your sad situation. I offer free advice about coin and stamp valuation in my neighbourhood, and free advice to charities. Recently a non-charity shop owner (not in my neighbourhood) asked me for a free valuation of a coin collection he had inherited. He told me initially that there was a full typewritten description and valuation for insurance produced in 1992 but he couldn't find it. So, interested in seeing the coins, I arranged to visit his shop to view the coins. 1 day before, he phoned me to cancel - his mother was ill. Another appointment made and cancelled, flooding in the shop - we have had a lot of rain. 2 more made and cancelled all with credible reasons. He turned up today at my door with a small briefcase, proposing to leave the coins with me - he was just going away for the weekend. Ordinarily I would have accepted, but having read what happened to you, I refused. I told him I was happy to see them in his shop or home with him present. He says he will contact me next week.
